The Bible is one of the most widely owned books, a best seller of all times, but, sad to say, one of the least read. Many people simply do not understand what the Scripture is. Many have never learned that it is God's revelation of himself to humanity and describes who He is and how we can have a relationship with Him. Another reason it's not read or mainly overlooked is that it's wrongly assumed that it lacks authenticity. In many opinions, the Bible, both the OT and the NT are no...

For the next seven weeks heading up until Easter we are going to be receiving sermons on the seven sayings of Christ on the Cross in the order he said them. This first week we looked at "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do ." Luke 23:34 This was amazing because if you look at the beginning of this verse it says...." Then said Jesus......" I underlined the word "then." This makes you go back to the verse prior which states ...."And when they were come to the ...

Just got back from x-country skiing. Felt great but the snow is kind of icy and choppy so not the best of conditions but got a bit of exercise nonethless. It was fairly warm, probably in the 40's. Hey, that's like a heat wave for us. My running has been sorta in the cellar, need to get my butt in gear. It's going to be March this week!! I only ran three times this week and last week. If I don't get myself going, I'll be a sorry sort in the Spring. X-country skiing is a great complime...

Evil. Even the word is ominous. What comes to mind when you think of that word evil? Jeffrey Dalmer? Eric Rudolph? Your mother in law? Hillary? (no last name needed) or how about that weird guy jumping over all the cars way back when? How about your boss or co-worker who just waits for you to screw up every day? Some describe evil as their kids out to get them. That thought usually passes after the teen years. How about the Muslim Terrorists? Do they qualify or are they ju...

Lawmakers in Colorado are now considering that teenagers are going to have to get permission from their parents to........TAN!!! Yup, you can now get an abortion sans parents but when it comes to that golden glow.......bring in a note. I was reading a news article about this today. In it they quoted a tanning-salon owner who said he goes to great lengths in making sure customers are educated before climbing into a tanning bed. He said basically the parent has to be present and sign...

I love to discover new truths. That's my thing I guess. Everyday I look for something I didn't know yesterday but it has to be true. I make it into a game sorta. Well anyway I found out something new today I didn't know. I wanted to check here at JU to see who knew this. I found out that Abe Lincoln and Charles Darwin were both born on the same day, February 12, 1809. Did you know that? So I was thinking. Isn't this interesting? Abe believed that all men were created equal by...

I'm studying the book of Colossians and with it comes the study of Gnosticism. Paul addressed what Epaphras, the founder of the church at Colosse, was clearly worried about. Heresy was coming into the church and he didn't know what to do. He took a trip to Rome to see Paul in prison. He must have been beside himself wondering how he was going to stop this spreading heresey in the church. So Paul wrote this letter that was circulated in all the house churches in Colosse and in the surrou...

Ok, here's another. I'm writing a lot today especially for me. The reason being is I'm housebound. We are supposed to get like two feet of snow. I'd say we've got about 15-18 inches already. We are having a good ol' fashion nor'easter. It's been a long time since we had a storm like this one. Everything in the state I think has been canceled. Good day to just sit home and relax. So let's see, the wood stove is cranking. The tea kettle is full on the woodstove. My Clorox jugs are ...

Another piece of disturbing news. I was at work yesterday when my boss, who is also my politcal advisor since he knows so much about it and keeps me informed on the latest, told me something that really bugged me. He and his wife took their 13 year old daughter to the doctor's for a regular checkup for sports. The doctor asked them to leave the room. They said they would prefer not to but the doctor insisted. So they did. They trust this doctor completely and left the room. Wh...

How many out there know that we've been paying for the Spanish American War all these years via the excise tax on our phone bills? Yup, that's right. I wonder if it's all paid by now? Well I would guess so plus more since now the government is offering us a one time credit this year. Did you know this? I guess we've more than paid the bill. While I don't know who, somebody figured this out and since last August or September this tax has been eliminated from our phone bills. Figu...

I was just reading a portion of a book about parenting. I picked it up for my daughter-in-law. In his book Kevin Leman, a therapist, counselor and talk show host both on radio and TV, talks about three different kinds of children. The chapter in his book was titled "Which Kids Cause the Most Stress? He sees the powerful child, the avenging child and the attention getter as categories he fits them in. I have three sons. Right off I could see the avenging child and the attention g...

I kind of left some unfinished business on my blog about Christianity being unfair. So I wanted to tie up loose ends here and call it a day. Some things to think about. When my kids were little, my oldest who was about three at the time, took a stick while playing in the yard and he tried to put it in the keyhold of my brother's brand new car. Of course this resulted in scratches around they keyhole. My brother who was single and not familiar with little kids was furious. He screamed ...

“ I recognize we are meeting here today to consider a bill to protect chickens, but isn’t protecting our nation’s young women … equally, if not more important, than our dinner entrée?” -- Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., commenting after Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee approved a measure earlier this week to stop animals from being transported across state lines for fighting, but rejected his amendment to stop young girls from being secretly taken across state lines for ab...

Ok, I got another news flash from the Journal. It looks like there's a big meeting planned in Atlanta next year in what is being described as a call for compassion. Several Baptist groups will be involved in this gathering. Leaders of 40 of them will meet with former Presidents Carter and Clinton. The meeting will focus on many social issues. You know stuff like, ecology, racism, poverty and AIDS. Looks like the only missing Baptist group is the Southern Baptist Organization which ...

I just read in the Liberty Journal that Hillary has brought in an "evangelical consultant" that will, in theory, help her attract conservative Christian voters for her 2008 presidential run. The man that has been hired to lure my, and my Christian counterparts', vote is Burns Strider, described as an evangelical Christian who directs religious outreach for other Dems. I have never heard of this man. Gotta go check him out. So far all is secret on how Burns is going to pull this o...
