Last time when I wrote under the topic of religion I posted an article about truth being fair. Is it? I say no, not always, maybe not most of the time. Is Christianity fair? Absolutely not. I never said it was. But if you take what the bible says literally and seriously like I do, the last thing you want is for God to be fair. In his book, Stanley speaks of the day fairness died. There was a time when life was fair. Everybody had equal opportunities to access and discover God. T...
Our church every year has a Super Bowl party as do probably thousands of churches across the country. It involves maybe 20-30 teens and a few parents. They have a great time doing a devo at halftime. I read this today from CitizenLink News in Focus and was pretty shocked to see that there is a copyright law on the words "Super Bowl." I guess the word is getting out. Have you heard anything about this? Maybe we should come up with another term then. But what could we call it? Here's t...
So now we come to the point of fairness. We rarely seem to debate the "only good people go" to heaven theory because that does seem fair to us. The "Jesus is the only way" belief is not quite so fair in our estimations because it seems......well.....so dogmatic. How can that be fair? On the surface it may seem unfair and Christians sometimes do feel uncomfortable saying so. It's hard to be dogmatic about anything nowadays anyway. Stanley's punchline to all this is "Christianity is...
This is sort of an update on a previous article. At Christmastime I posted an entry called Holiday Musings in which I wrote about what we did for the holidays. One of the things I mentioned was inviting a mother and daughter to our home for Christmas. They were living out of a motel and our church had been helping them since late fall. Just before Christmas they were given many nice gifts from the church family as well as many other helps and offers. They were regulars at our Wednesda...
We left off seeing there is an alternative to the "good people" only go to heaven belief. We saw, looking at the words of Christ, that it wasn't the good Pharisee who was on his way to eternal bliss but the "bad guy" receiving forgiveness from the one that calls heaven home. The story goes like this: A Jewish man who claimed to be God showed up here on earth, making absurd claims, doing what seemed to be miracles, was put to death by the Romans at the insistence of the religious estab...
Ok, so we've figured that because there is no universal agreement on right or wrong and the good people view has obstacles to clear we need to continue in our quest to figure our eternal destinies. How does this all work? Does it matter? For those not quite wanting to give up the "good people" go to heaven view let's continue there. Suppose that we do know and agree on a formula that defines unquestionably what is right and wrong. Even if we have a clear definition, how do we get grade...
If we had a roomful of people...wait we do....right here in JU. Okay right here on JU it's hard to get even two of us completely on the same page regarding what good is, forget about how we can make it to heaven. How can that be if God has given us a conscience to follow? Wouldn't he place the same things in there for us all? In Stanley's book on being good he put in a story about an anthropologist who spent time in New Guinea with a tribe that celebrated betrayal. The ability to win...
The million dollar question is How does one get to heaven? The prerequisite is death, and for that we seem to all agree. But after that let the speculation begin. For many life is much too busy to even think about this right now. I mean life is pretty full right now to even bother thinking that far ahead. Life has to be lived, jobs have to be done, kids have to be fed, my tv program has to be watched and I do have to sleep at least 1/3 of the day. There is just no time to think about ...
I received this today via email and was shocked at the number of deaths surrounding the Clintons and had to ask myself.... is this normal? Yes they are in the spotlight, and they do have alot of contacts. But is this normal to have sooooo many people die some in very mysterious ways, or is it just another Clinton basher trying to make a mountain out of a molehill. Is this a "right wing" conspiracy? You decide. Food for Thought--------- Just a quick refresher course lest we forget wh...
I did not write this, but got it from a friend. Thought it was as short as you can get and as hilarious as it is short. A woman, standing nude, looks in the bedroom mirror and says to her husband, "I look horrible, I feel fat and ugly. Pay me a compliment". The husband replies, "Your eyesight's perfect". He never heard the shot......

Quite often I include an inspiring quote at the end of my emails. I love to include inspirational quotes from those that have inspired me. What is your favorite quote? Here's a few that inspire me.... "Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God." Corrie Ten Boom "The decision to have a child is to accept that your heart will forever walk about outside of your body." Katherine Hadley "The burden of suffering seems to be a tombstone hung around our necks. Yet in...
I received this this morning via email and thought it was hysterical. Well the guys might not think so. We've all had trouble with our animals, but I don't think anyone can top this one: Calling in sick to work makes me uncomfortable. No matter how legitimate my excuse, I always get the feeling that my boss thinks I'm lying. On one recent occasion, I had a valid reason but lied anyway, because the truth was just too darned humiliating. I simply mentioned that I had sustained a head ...
