I felt like I was in the middle of an episode of the Twilight Zone yesterday. I used to love that show along with Dark Shadows and other scary tv programs or movies. It's one thing to be sitting in your cozy LR and another to be standing in the middle of the store going, "you've got to be kidding me." First to explain so you don't think I'm weirder than I already am...lol. I cut my theological teeth on prophecy or prophetic books not excluding the book of Revelation. Not only that b...
Yesterday, of course, was a big news day for me with my son in the middle of the ensuing chaos in Lynchburg, VA. The phone was ringing off the hook both here at the house and before that at work. I was at work and heard on the radio that Jerry Falwell was found unconscious in his office. I was trying to remember where his office was at Liberty. I've walked by it and saw his name on the door but can't remember which building it was in. I immediately called my son who had not heard a th...
Over the last seven years I've spent alot of time at Liberty University. For those who don't know, this is the University that Jerry founded in 1971 in Lynchburg, VA. Before 1999 I had not even heard of this University. I came to the quick realization this was the biggest Christian University in the whole world. I also liked what I saw when I visited this campus. So did my son. It all started in 1999 when my son was looking for a good Christian University. I barely knew who Falw...
Moms like their grown kids to call them once in a while, especially on those special days like Mother's Day. Since yesterday was Mother's Day I was wondering who would and wouldn't call. I figured my eldest and youngest were a given but unsure about the middle child. Why? Well, because he's a middle child. That and he's forgotten before. So on the way home from church we were taking bets who would call first. It wasn't much of a bet. We both hinged our bets on the same boy. We ...
My son David and Aly had a prom last weekend. Well sort of I guess. It was for Juniors and Seniors at their college and about 450 kids went to it. The only thing is....there was no dancing. I know that's kind of strange but I'm guessing it had something to do with the Christian College thing. Instead of dancing they had a very nice meal with entertainers and music. I don't know all the particulars but there was a Christian illusionist there, and they seemed to have a great time ev...
John is now instructed to write a letter to the church at Smyrna. This is what was written: “And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write, These things says the First and the Last, who was dead, and came to life: 9“I know your works, tribulation, and poverty (but you are rich); and I know the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. 10“Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of y...
I have a confession to make. I do not own a cell phone. Well unless you count the Trac Phone I just bought for my trip and that I'm going to return because I didn't like it. My husband doesn't have one either. He doesn't like the "we have to be on demand for anyone who wants us" sort of thing. We have an old fashioned phone with a message machine on it at home, so it's not like we're not connected or anything. We're just not connected 24/7 and I rather like it that way. How did ...
Hi guys, Welcome to my blog. Are you behaving yourselves? Ha! Why ask you? I wouldn't believe you anyway. Isn't that how it goes? Don't believe anything that anyone of you guys say in that house.......well maybe with the exception of Nate.......LOL. So since Christian is the instigator and the OLD guy, I'll start with you. I hope you're doing lots of studying this week Christian. Good luck in your very last finals!! Well, ummmm that is if you pass. Ha, I really think y...
John was to write a letter to each of the seven churches of Asia Minor in the year 95 AD. The first letter was to his own church, the church of Ephesus. This is what he was instructed to write. 1“To the angel of the church of Ephesus write, ‘These things says He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands: 2“I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say...
I am Patriotic and proud of it. I always have been. I get goose bumps when I sing God Bless America, or My Country Tis of Thee. I can't help it. It was ingrained in me since I was a child I guess. We used to sing these songs all the time. When was the last time you had the opportunity to sing about our Heritage or even hear one of these Patriotic songs outside of a sports arena? Do our young children today even know these songs? My earliest school memories involve singing suc...
I've just been told I'm over qualified. Hahahahah I don't think I've been told that before. I guess for one reason, I'm not very good at losing checks. Working with checks is one part of my job. I do lots of reconciliations and am also in charge of the billing. We did our son David's tax return. He had three tax returns to do since he's working out of state. The State sent us a letter saying while they received his return, they did not receive his check. Well he sent one. In fac...
Revelation 1:9-20: 9 I, John, both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. 10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet, 11saying, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last,” and, “What you see, write in a book and send it to the seven churches which are in Asia: to Ephesus, to Smyrna...
I just spent five days hanging out with my son and his girlfriend in Lynchburg, VA and had a blast. The plane trip went according to textbook or actually better than expected. I'm now singing the Jet Blue Praises. I would definitely fly that airline again. My last flight home was 40 minutes earlier than expected. My husband was able to track my entire flight and picked me up exactly on time by doing so. I was very pleased. It all started a month or so ago when I told David if I could...
Revelation is a letter written to the seven churches of Asia Minor at the end of the first century. These churches were along a circuit similar to a postal route. Most likely this letter was copied and sent around to the churches. Now remember the churches were not like ours today. The church was basically individual homes within a city. So multiple copies of this letter would have been sent around and preserved to be read over and over again. Any significance to seven? I would say so....
Our Pastor decided finally to, many's anticipation, preach on Revelation. Many preachers stay away from this book for a variety of reasons. None are good IMHO because right in the first chapter we're promised a blessing for just reading it. He's already done two sections in the last two weeks and I thought I'd jot down a few of the highlights for any that are interested. It also helps me in cementing some of the thoughts that have come up in the process, and as always I've got food...
