I'm not very good at losing checks

I've just been told I'm over qualified. Hahahahah I don't think I've been told that before. I guess for one reason, I'm not very good at losing checks. Working with checks is one part of my job. I do lots of reconciliations and am also in charge of the billing.

We did our son David's tax return. He had three tax returns to do since he's working out of state. The State sent us a letter saying while they received his return, they did not receive his check. Well he sent one. In fact we gave him the money to send the check. So we checked with him and yes, he put a check with the return. We sent him the money because we claimed him this year and because we did, it caused him to owe the IRS.

So the state tacked on a penalty and a tax for late payment. Hello? He sent the return. He did send the check. This is not uncommon to get notices like this. I mean if he wasn't going to send the check, he most likely wouldn't even send the return. That's what most do if they don't want to pay. Just skip it altogether.

We usually recommend people send their return certified, but in this case even if you sent it certified it wouldn't prove you attached a check. We told him to check his account to see if the check cleared. So far it has not. So we're guessing they have once again lost another check. One year by mistake a whole bunch of checks were shredded. And in Philadelphia one year one of the workers was so behind in doing returns that he shredded many of the returns he received and claimed he never got them.

Well that's a unique way to clear off your desk!!! Gee, I wonder how that would work at my office.

Anyhow, I was saying after all these years of working in the CPA field I could, if we move, work for the government and do the other side of the tax business. That's when I was told I was probably over qualified. They usually don't have a very high standard when it comes to who they put in place reviewing our returns. That's why we have so much trouble with the IRS. Geeeze you can't even call and get the same answer to the same question twice in a row no matter how many times you call.......if you can even get through that is.

So we will once again write a letter on our son's behalf as we have done many times over the years for our clients. This will be taken care of but not after being aggravated a bit.

Hahahaha if we do this before next week we save a whole whopping two cents!!! Postage goes up on the 14th.
