I was just reading this article about the 15 year old in Michagan who got in trouble for putting a piece of tape on his shirt that said he was straight. His school, Oakridge High, observed a Day of Silence where homosexual students put tape on their mouths or just refused to speak, even in class. They were also allowed to pass out pro-homosexual papers to the students. The 15 year old, David Gardner, didn't agree. So he got a piece of tape and put "I'm straight" on it and stuck i...
As I sit here this am looking outside I can tell it's going to be a beut of a day. The sunfilled backyard is calling my name. I think today might be a great day to work outside. Today we were promised an 80 degree day. YES!!! Outside of this past week we've not had an over 70 degree day since last October. How sad is that? There are still pockets of snow here and there. I have a massive amount under the basketball hoop. All the low shady areas are still snow covered but not for...
Christians sometimes get asked how they can believe what they believe. How do we come to, what we believe is, the knowledge of the truth? How can we believe the bible promises us everything we absolutely need? Are we better than everyone else? Are we more intelligent? Did someone make a good reasonable case that convinced us to believe that Jesus is God? No. Not at all. Christians are not the elite, nor more intelligent, nor better than anyone else. Actually it’s more the opp...
I'm not sure why but I did another stupid thing this week. That makes two in one week!! Gah!!!! This time I swallowed Peroxide by mistake. Yup. Didn't taste so hot either. Actually it had a burning effect on my throat as it went down. Then my stomach didn't feel so hot a few minutes later that lasted for an hour or so. Actually I felt kind of sick. Pretty nasty stuff. What happened was...... I was told by my Oral Surgeon friend to rinse twice a day with a mixture of Peroxide a...
I recently wrote about our personal God which, of course, got mixed reviews. I cannot explain this with reason and logic. I know that even tho I do, at times, try to explain him knowing it can't really be done. Here's another example of God's divine intervention in our lives that just played out this week, actually yesterday and today. It actually begins last September. Our Associate Pastor and his wife and my husband and I went to a Pastor's conference in VT. I think I wrote about i...
We live in a reactive society instead of a proactive one. We scurry around like bugs under a rock that has been lifted to expose the light of day only to find another rock to hurry and hide under. Isn't that what we're doing here with the latest senseless tragedy at V-Tech? Houston, we've got a problem. So how do we fix it? By making it worse? Taking guns away from law abiding citizens is not the answer. We all know robbing banks is unlawful. But guess what? Banks get robbed an...
Tax Season is over!!! Or so I thought. The latest news? The tax deadline has been extended to April 26! Well at least it is for the East Coast. It all started with the storm of the year on Monday, the 16th. This was going to be a good ol' fashioned Nor'easter. On Sunday, April 15th the snow started flying right after we got out of church. Earlier than we thought. It continued thru the night and in the morning we woke up to much rain and gusty wind. Since we live inland it was...
Have you ever done something really stupid? I mean so stupid you even immediately say to yourself..."that was really stupid?" I do once in a while and that once in a while happened on Friday. It kind of smacks of the same stupidity of nailing that piece of wood to my dining table while I was practicing using a hammer and nail. Now that was stupid and I say so everytime I look at the hole in my table. Anyhow on Friday we had no electricity as a storm whipped thru our area. As a resu...
There are just not enough hours in the day. So much to do, so little time to do it all. I would love to have a 48 hour day. Hmmmm I wonder about the logistics of that tho. But the days just seem to fly by. The older I get the faster they go. Today I got up early to help an elderly lady clean her home. Every Spring a bunch of us gals get together and plan a house cleaning for someone, usually an elderly lady, who has trouble getting around. Last year we did for Polly. While Polly...
Ok, it's Spring......well sort of. We just got an eight inch or so dumping of snow last night. The electricity went off during our favorite show, "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" An answer was about to be revealed that I knew for a change. Some of those questions are unbelieveable. Anyhow, the electiricity didn't come back on until today at 11 am. So, we dragged out the candles, lanterns and oil lamps for the second time in about a week. Thank goodness for all my water fille...
On Wednesdays we have bible study at our church. We start off at 5:00 with a free spaghetti dinner to any that wish to come. This is followed by a Pioneer Group for kids from 1st to 6th grade. The parents and those without kids go into the back for our very own bible study. It's a great way for the whole family to get together for dinner and teaching. For over a year the adults have been discussing Genesis, verse by verse, chapter by chapter. It's very intense and very interesting. We...
I got this new "exercise program" from a friend. I thought it very appropriate for JU land. I think we can all find some of the exercises we tend to do better at than others. I guess we just have our favorites. The Doc told me to start an exercise program. Not wanting to harm this old body, I've devised the following: Beat around the bush Jump to conc...
I'm glad our three boys got to spend Easter together even if it was SANS parents. From what I've heard they all had a good time even tho Brian was laid up some after going thru PRK last week. Because his eyes were very sensitive to light and movement he had to spend some of the weekend in his dark bedroom trying to find some relief. David left VA on Thursday and drove the seven hours or so to KY to be with Bobby. They hung around for a while going to church together that night and le...
We decided to do something different for Easter this year. In the past we usually either had the boys home or a combination of the boys and invited guests. Usually we invited those that may have been spending the day alone. This year knowing the boys couldn't make it home and my not knowing how'd I'd be feeling with the toothache, we decided to see the movie I had been wanting to see for quite some time, Amazing Grace. If you like history , you'd like this movie since it's based on the ...
As we finish examining the last statement from the cross let's look at it from the angle of peace and comfort. As Jesus gave up that last breath, He had peace. Did you notice that He went from "My God, My God" as he earlier addressed God the Father to now here simply addressing Him as "Father?" We sense comfort and closeness now. Isn't he saying, "into your hands Dad I come?" Don't you get a sense of comfort even now as he's nailed to the cross? This quote comes from Psalm 31:5 ...
