No Dancing the Night Away
My son David and Aly had a prom last weekend. Well sort of I guess. It was for Juniors and Seniors at their college and about 450 kids went to it. The only thing is....there was no dancing.
I know that's kind of strange but I'm guessing it had something to do with the Christian College thing. Instead of dancing they had a very nice meal with entertainers and music. I don't know all the particulars but there was a Christian illusionist there, and they seemed to have a great time even without the dancing.
It was the pre-prom activity that took up most of my attention via on the phone with David. It all started when he phoned home to ask me how much it would cost to sew a button on his new suit he just bought. I asked him why he needed to sew a button on it. He replied that it was a cheap suit. It was a nice looking black suit, but he bought it because it was cheap. The buttons were in the pocket instead of on the jacket.
So I told him to have Aly sew them on forgetting that she's the least domesticated girl I know. He, of course, reminded me that she couldn't even sew on a button. So I told him to look for a mom. He said he didn't know any moms to ask. He did know one girl that liked him but Aly would actually kill him if he asked her. This girl, a true southern belle, from the sounds of it knew how to do all these domesticated things that Aly who is from Chicago doesn't have a clue about. But he gave up that idea after thinking of the repercussions. It would cost him dearly. It wasn't worth it. So I left him with the thought he would think of somebody.
He also asked if he needed to really buy black shoes. He had brown ones. I told him, black suit, black belt and black shoes. He only had a brown belt and brown shoes and really didn't want to dish out extra money for this. I told him to go to Payless. He sounded like he was going to keep the brown shoes and belt anyway. I know Aly, while she's not domesticated, does know fashion and would take care of this quite certainly. So I didn't press the issue.
The next day, the morning of the Prom, I asked him what he did about the buttons. He proudly said he did it himself. He just kind of figured out what to do and sewed them on himself. Well so he thought.
That night he went to pick up Aly and when he was in the bathroom all his buttons fell off. He was in there a loooooong time trying to figure out what he was going to do. Aly was wondering why he was taking so long. He finally decided he'd pin his buttons on. So that's what he did. He said they worked out fine. So he went to the prom with pinned on buttons.
So anyhow here's a picture of them, if I can do this right. Do you see anything wrong with his suit? Ha, I certainly don't.
