An interesting thing happened today. Very interesting. In fact, to us it was quite unbelievable. Well, not really, because we know who's behind all this. God is funny how he arranges things. We were definitely "set up." We were going to attend our friend's church for our first Sunday here, but a miscommunication arose. That, and the fact I'm slow moving in the morning made for a change in our plans. Since we were not going to make our friend's church in time, we decided to check...
This is Day Three for us in Florida. We are in a mess still. Lots to do. We still have many unopened boxes to work on and others we just have no room to put the contents, because we need to build shelves first. We spent the day today mostly doing errands. We set up bank accounts, went cell phone shopping, got groceries and went to Home Depot. That store is going to be our favorite for a while. We walked around the store looking at shelving units, cabinets for the laundry room and ...
I have a complete new respect for all the truck drivers out there. After traveling half the country in a 45 foot truck/trailer combo I saw traveling via a truck much differently than traveling via small car. I saw truckdrivers from different eyes. My own. We've traveled all over the country usually in a small compact car for gas economy or Family Van with the kids for room but never have had occasion to travel via big truck. The first thing I noticed is we had to drive, of cours...
Ok, so I didn't actually drive it, but I helped where I could, and I totally owned a few anxious moments especially on our first day. A few times I had to jump out and do some directing making sure he didn't hit anything he wasn't supposed to. We finally landed in Florida on Monday afternoon after driving for three days. It turned out to be a 31 hour trip from Maine to Florida. It was a pretty scary first leg. We've never driven a truck like this before. We had a 24 foot truck with ...
Today is Sunday. Today is what I call the Lord's Day. Many Christians as well as non Christians enjoy the Sermon on the Mount. So I thought I'd share a short devo from Adrien on the Beatitudes which is a big part of this Sermon. “O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him.” Psalm 34:8 The Lord Jesus Christ gives us beatitudes attitudes that ought to be. They are not platitudes. They are attitudes that deal with Christian character. Your reput...
Another chapter ends. Tonight was sports awards. It will be my last at least here at the Academy. As I sat at the head table along with all the other coaches looking out at all the parents, I got a bit sentimental. I know alot of the crowd that filled those bleachers. I looked at all the familiar faces, some not so, but so many people I've come to know these last 10 years. Between the school and the church I must know thousands here in just 10 years. What will the next ten bring wi...
Ok since it's Sunday and I haven't written under the religious forum in a while, I thought I'd share a Sunday thought. This is from a short devo from Adrien Rogers. “ And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.” Romans 13:11 Do you know what Napoleon said about China? “There lies a sleeping giant, and let him sleep, because if he awakens, he will shake the world.” I believe the devil says that abo...
Well here you go for those who didn't see this op-ed in the NY Times. It's the beginning of organizing the evangelical vote at a meeting in Salt Lake City. The purpose was to discuss what would happen if Giuliani or another GOP candidate who doesn't represent them is elected to be the nominee. It was titled "The Values Test." by James C. Dobson, Ph.D., founder and chairman Dr. Dobson says winning an election is important, but not at the expense of our core beliefs. Reports ...
I'VE GOT GOOD NEWS!!! ETHAN IS GOING TO BE A BROTHER!!! OH AND YA, I'M GOING TO BE A GRANDMOTHER AGAIN!! CONGRATS TO BRIAN & AMANDA!!
I was in a hurry today. Ha! That's not all that unusual. I'm always buzzing about town. In and out of the car faster than a speeding bullet half the time. Today I went into town to do a bunch of errands, meet with the gals for the last time, hug their necks and take one out to lunch. Then off to the laundromat to get that big quilt washed, off to get my corn chowder ingredients (for Saturday) then then to the Post Office and x-country practice and with picking up boxes at the local ...
Listening to the right voices? . Are you? Do we know truth when we hear it? Or are we flirting with the bearer of lies swallowing what she says because it makes us feel better? Do you believe everything you hear? Would you know a strategic misrepresentation if you heard it? Here's an example of one. It's a joke I heard recently. A wife calls her husband on his cell phone in the locker room he's supposed to be in. She's in a clothing store. She asks if she can buy a $1,0...
I've already gone on record to say I believe possibly the presidential election could come down to Huckabee vs Hillary. Of course we still have a ways to go and time will surely tell. I think he's the GOP's only hopeful. My opinion. At the Values Voter Summit in Washington DC a week or so ago Huckabee came out strong and was received as such. His speech was interrupted at least 20 times with applause and had at least a dozen or so standing ovations. He also won, by a large margi...
Have you ever thought about giving a place to the devil? Probably not. But did you know we do all the time and don't even know it? Ephesians 4:27 says: "Neither give place to the devil." Well that's pretty clear. We're not to do it. Ok, so exactly what does this mean? Did you know that the devil can stake a claim on our minds? Yes, he does it all the time. People can get a satanic stronghold in their lives, contaminating their life and the lives of their families. ...
`just to set things straight since there seems to be so much confusion on exactly what a Christian is or isn't.......from a friend...... 'A woman's heart should be so hidden in Christ that a man should have to seek Him first to find her.' When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not shouting 'I'm clean livin'' I'm whispering 'I was lost, Now I'm found and forgiven.' When I say... 'I am a Christian' I don't speak of this with pride. I'm confessing that I stumble and need Christ to ...
Two Weeks In two weeks we'll be moving. We're maybe, half packed. I still have a garage full of stuff to sell. We lowered the price of the house by alot. We are now told we have the best deal in town. It's a dead market, so you have to do what you have to do. We don't want to be sitting on this house all winter. The house is all prepped, painted, swept and looking fine. Isn't that the case? It's never looked so good. Now we just need a buyer. I still have to do at least one...
