Who Needs To Wake Up

Ok since it's Sunday and I haven't written under the religious forum in a while, I thought I'd share a Sunday thought. This is from a short devo from Adrien Rogers.

And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.” Romans 13:11

Do you know what Napoleon said about China? “There lies a sleeping giant, and let him sleep, because if he awakens, he will shake the world.” I believe the devil says that about the church of the Lord Jesus Christ. And I believe the church is just that, a sleeping giant. We’re asleep because we have been chloroformed by the spirit of this age. We’re bombarded on every side by all kinds of amusement. Do you know what amuse means? It’s a combination of two words. Muse means to think, and the alpha prefix in front of it means not to. We are a generation that is amusing ourselves into oblivion. And it’s time to wake up!
*****************************************************************************************************************************************
Jesus warned us many times not to sleep but to stay alert and watchful. Watch and pray is my new mantra these days, like Nehemiah as he built the walls of Jerusalem with enemies abounding. He told his workers they needed to watch and pray. It's said that a farmer prays for rain with a hoe in his hand. We are not to be slumbering just waiting for God to do his thing. We are to do God's work praying as we do.

The church is sleeping because of amusement, sure. There's always plenty of ministry opportunities out there, small ways to serve people. Other things, other people, and other plans get in the way.

The other things lies in the security of these things, or the wanting of things that drown out the opportunities. I mean, a rich guy came up to Jesus himself, wanting to follow Him, and what did Jesus say? He said how high quality this guy was, and loved him, and said that there was one thing he lacked. He told him to sell all his possessions and give them to the poor, and follow Him. (note: Doesn't say give all his possessions to taxes to the government who would then redistribute it to the poor - just wanted to put that out there) The guy... wouldn't sell his stuff, because he had so much. He had the greatest opportunity that anyone could be given, and his stuff got in the way of it. What greater opportunity do we have then to love people for Christ?

Other people get in the way when you start caring more about what other people think than what Christ thinks, or when we start comparing ourselves to others, getting competitive with others, etc.

Other plans get in the way all the time. Ever notice that Jesus' ministry works with the miracles always came when he was 'busy' doing something else? He was on his way somewhere, and he had to stop to do ministry. And he did. So we should be willing to give up our plans, go out of our way to do our ministry. Love is what happens while we're making other plans.

Pastor gives great messages, lol. I just thought it fit with the church being asleep - it's asleep, distracted, scared, amused, all at the same time.

I got a very good chuckle from the last statement. Thank you! It reads like the human race lol.

Trolling: online intransitive verb to lure other Internet users into sending responses to carefully designed incorrect statements. I don't know????
