They're not always right

I was in a hurry today. Ha! That's not all that unusual. I'm always buzzing about town. In and out of the car faster than a speeding bullet half the time.

Today I went into town to do a bunch of errands, meet with the gals for the last time, hug their necks and take one out to lunch. Then off to the laundromat to get that big quilt washed, off to get my corn chowder ingredients (for Saturday) then then to the Post Office and x-country practice and with picking up boxes at the local mom & pop store after getting gas I was ready to go home.

In all of this rush and hustle I did learn a valuable lesson. When I rushed into the store to pick up my four cans of corn chowder ingredients, two cans of evaporated milk and two cans of corn, I immediately went to the quick 10 items or less register.

There directly in front of me was a lady with much more than 10 items. Now, I'm not exactly a stickler about this.....11-12 items are ok but she had more than say..... double. Maybe 20-30 items or more were in her cart and I was in a hurry.

So as I stood there holding my four cans with cash already in hand, I'm sure I didn't look too happy. All I could think of is....don't people read signs? These two registers (only one was on) are actually at the end and out of the way of the other registers. So it's pretty obvious. But I didn't say anything...just stood there inwardly fuming because.....well....I was in a hurry.

I think the front end manager saw the look on my face and came over, seeing my small purchase to be with cash in hand and waved me over to the next register which was empty. As she opened up her register I explained my thoughts on people who have way more than they should on a quick check out and how I was in a rush. She apologized and said it was her fault. She actually was the one who directed that lady over there not seeing that she had more than she realized.

I said it was ok now knowing the rest of the story. Then I got mad at myself for making an asumption not knowing all the details. How often do we do that? I know I do more than I should and need to remember today as an example not to do this again.

*Sigh* so much to work on, so little time.......there's a saying I heard once and need to heed that went like this:

Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life.

Really liked this article KFC,  you know we're just humans and we make mistakes,  and I truly believe the only person we hurt is ourselves and we do it with double force.

We're hurting ourselves by judging others,  and then by letting ourself down for making a mistake,  then we suffer the consequences as it isn't healthy for our bodies to be upset.....I say all this cause I've been down this road wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too often!

I could state many examples!!

You probably don't do this too often so you're ahead in the game

I think self-reflection is excellent,  I believe too that sometimes these situations occur for a good purpose.

Take care

Thanks Trudy, yes it's true. We do hurt ourselves and sometimes if we speak out on this type of feeling only make ourselves look pretty silly as well. If I had made a rude remark to the "over the limit lady," then I would have felt even worse than I already did by staying quiet. So I guess it's good to remember there is a time to speak and a time not to speak.

hahaha that depends on your definition of "too often." I do make assumptions more than I should. Sometimes I'm right but I'm not 100% so I need to remember that I don't always have all the info and should not be so quick to judge a situation like I did today.

yes, as long as we learn from them. I confess sometimes I need more than one lesson to finally "get it." Hopefully I'll be less quick to assume something.......at least for a while...lol

Take care

You too!! Thanks for dropping by

I hate seeing those people in the fast checkout lanes as well.  But I dont say anything as I have seen where an express cashier will ask for a customer with a lot of items if they are not doing anything. SO I dont know if they were told to go there or not.

so you're one step ahead of me Doc. I don't use this service much as I always have a carriage full so I guess I'm not experienced enough, but I honestly didn't even think that way. Not sure why not because I was a front end manager at one time. Just didn't.

Yes, assumptions are the mother of most misunderstandings imho.

If you are not a patient person, Florida is going to help teach it to you.  hahaha.  The population is more dense and it seems to take forever to get things done because of all the waiting in line, waiting in traffic, waiting for customer service.

ya know T...I've thought about this. Here I can zoom in and out of parking lots, virtually no traffic. I am SO SPOILED!!! I know I need to learn patience more. I'm somewhat better than I used to be but far from where I need to be.

The fact that many will be much older than me and slower will be exactly what I need I think. I may not like it much, but I do realize it's what I need to learn.

You know the funny thing? I never did make that corn chowder. I packed the cans away and will maybe make it when I get down to Florida. We've been too busy trying to eat the leftovers in the fridge and freezer.

hahaha.

So it was a lesson you needed to "get" before you left...the chowder was secondary. hahaha. I think you're gonna be all right KFC and a blessing to your new community.
