Random acts of kindness goes a long way. Have you ever taken the opportunity to show a complete stranger a little kindness out of the blue watching the surprised look on their face? I have but not enough. There are many times when I have the opportunity to give to a cause or to an individual I know well who may be hurting or needy but just to give to a complete stanger hasn't presented itself to me very often. I mean I've done the free car washes...
Well it's July and the hot weather is here and I still like living here. Many back home said, "wait until the summer" thinking I'd hightail it right back after some oppresive steamy weather. Nope. Loving every bit of it. Well maybe I wouldn't if I was a roof worker or landscaper but since I don't have to do these sorts of jobs the heat really doesn't bother me much. Actually we've been watching the weather back home and they've had some days hotter than ...
A few months ago I wrote about California outlawing homeschooling and the scrambling that went on after that bomb hit the public square. This decision which I believe has been rescinded or at least stayed for a period of time reminded me about another case in 1983 not to mention Hitler's outlawing homeschooling in, I believe, 1938. Back in 1983 homeschooling was outlawed in about 45 states because it was mandated that the parents would have to have a four year teaching certific...
Ok, I know this isn't like my usual blog entry but thought what the heck.....I'll go out on a limb and ask the question. If you had to give up sex or hot water for a week which would you give up?
I'm currently reading "The Story of My Life" by Helen Keller. It's an easy read and one I coud read on the plane coming back from Ohio quite easily given all the interruptions. She wrote about her own extensive reading of the classics. She read literature in English, French and Greek all without being able to see or hear a blessed word! Amazing! What's my excuse? Here she wrote about her reading about Troy. "It was the Iliad t...
We bought the wrong mattress. In April I wrote about buying a mattress. We came home with a latex mattress hearing only good things about them and decided to give it a try. The, now we know, new employee seemed to lead us in that direction saying we would be covered by a comfort exchange if we didn't like it. So we bought it. Well I didn't think we'd have a problem. We've slept all over the country in many motels over the years with very littl...
Have you ever seen those bumper stickers that say: "My Chld is an Honor Student at (insert name of school)?" Perhaps you've had one on your car? Is that bragging or boasting? Or is that just giving a child a pat on the back for a job well done? Is there anything wrong with that? There are too many kids out there messing around, getting in trouble and not being very good examples out there. They seem to get plenty of attention don't th...
Well I got to see a first yesterday and it was pretty cool. Let me tell ya. I was all excited. As you get older, it's exciting to have these "first" experiences isn't it? We heard the shuttle was to be launched at 5 pm yesterday and knew we had a great vantage point afforded us right here in our new neighborhood so we decided to take advantage. About ten minutes to five we got in the golf cart and headed up the hill nearby. We were ...
I never learned to swim as a child. I grew up in the city and outside of a few lake excursions during summer vacation, the only water experience I had was either in the bathtub or back yard kiddie pool. During one of these lake experiences I nearly drowned falling off one of those plastic floats. I didn't realize I had floated over my head. So between that experience and knowing a childhood friend who drowned while trying to save another kid I pretty much set m...
Ok, it's finally hot today. We've been told all winter to wait. Wait, cuz it's coming. " You just wait and you'll see," a statement made usually followed with a snicker and a smirk on the face. Ha! This is usually said by people who have NEVER seen snow! How bad can it be? Well it's hot. This is the really the very first day that I'm sweating without actually doing anything. I can just sit here and sweat all by myself with not an ...
I went to Epcot today. This is the first time since I've moved to Florida that I've taken the time to check out Disney. We've had quite a bit of company these last few weeks so I've been entertaining much of this time mostly just around here but today we ventured south for the day and we had a great time. The weather was great. The crowds were almost non-existent which made for easy accessability to all the events. I've never seen Disney so NOT busy. I mean ...
There are so many interesting rules and regulations out there that make absolutely no sense. It makes one wonder where in the world did they get this idea from? What were they thinking? I really would like to know who sits around and makes up this stuff. It would be nice to put a face behind some of these laws. Here's the latest stupid rule in a long list of many. My husband came home after working at a car dealership all day. The owner of this very large ...
Today was a gorgeous day. Not much different than it's been around here. Highs in the 80's during the day and 60's at night. Just perfect. I did something a bit different today. I biked to Rosenthal's study in Lady Lake. Usually it takes me like 10 minutes and about 5 miles to get there by car. But with rotaries, or around here they call them roundabouts, and loads of traffic along the normal route I took the back way which mostly took me along countr...
I have come to realize I can now add another least favorite thing to shop for. I would put this on the list next to toilets or lumber. What is it? A mattress. It's not fun, probably the least fun purchase I've ever made. I've spent weeks looking and researching mattresses and I still feel I don't know all that much. It's very, very confusing. There are so many different types, brands, coils, etc. Do we buy one with memory foam, pillowt...
Everyone seems stressed these days. Have you noticed this? Either they are in a hurry or they are angry or they are just plain annoyed. And it's little things that set them off. I admit, I too find myself annoyed at little things. I catch myself all the time and try to change my attitude because I really don't want to be angry, annoyed or rude. It's really not a pleasant state to be in. I'm really making a concerted effort these days to be plea...
