Back home in Maine I'm now getting reports they are having lots and lots of fun with lots and lots of snow!!!  NOT!!!!   I just want to say to all my friends back home in Maine and New Hampshire......I feel your pain.  Really.  I do.  That's why I'm not there anymore.  I had enough pain in the neck cold weather and have had my fill of shoveling snow to last a lifetime already.  Anyhow, someone sent me this diary of living in Maine and I t...

We hit the road racing circuit this morning by participating in a local 5K. It was my first race in a year and a half with virtually no speedwork at all.   I was literally sweet talked into doing this a few weeks ago because my back has been a problem now for many months and racing is not at the top of my list right now.  When I got up at pre-dawn this morning, and very cold I should add,  I groaned  and warned my husband I wouldn't be able to fully race this because my ba...

Many know that holidays can be depressing.  Up until now, I've not experienced that.  With a busy family I've been too busy to be depressed.  There just seem to be enough time between Thanksgiving and Christmas to get it all done.  The cleaning, the decorating, the cooking, the shopping, mailing out Christmas cards etc.  Too much to do in a short period of time. Every year about this time I swear I'm going to do the Christmas cards in June.  I never do.  For...

It's been quite a Thanksgiving weekend both for me personally and world-wide by listening to the news this morning and the last several days.  First of course, were the attacks in India.  How tragic and unneccessary.  For what?  Many died at the hands of another just because.  Basically.  My journalist son called to say the first two reported came from Lynchburg which is where he is.  Many already know a Rabbi and his wife were killed. ...

We've been here a year now and still have not settled into a church to call home.  We wish to find a place where we can be useful.  We are able bodied workers who are more than ready to roll our sleeves up and be put to work.  We started out in one church, stayed there for about 7 months or so and then moved on.  It was clear this church was stagnating and didn't seem to want to go anywhere or do much of anything. They had no children.  Quite often I was the youn...

I have a new friend Pete.  He's married to one of my new gal pals I hang out with here in sunny Florida.   I read this today and thought of Pete.  So Pete, here you go.   Especially for you!       "The man who doesn't read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read them"  Mark Twain

I had been looking forward for months on returning to my home state of Maine.  I longed for the bright colors of fall and the crisp red apples that awaited me as we planned our trip back home.  I was not disappointed. With my suitcases packed with fleece, long-sleeved shirts and real shoes and socks not to mention a winter coat I boarded the plane with much anticipation.  This anticipation only grew as we approached the coast of Maine and oh.....the colors even from the...

I was told by someone once that if you're willing to put about 10,000 hours into something you'd be considered an expert.  I started up line dancing and just finished my third class. So I have a long way to go to reach expert status.  Believe me, a long way to go. Line dancing is a very popular thing down here.  Everynight there's line dancing on the square dancing to a live band.  It's fun to watch and they look like they're having so much fun.  So....I ...

This was sent to me by my husband's accounting office.  He also brought home the new bailout plan.  Do you know it's 80 pages long?  I also found out our money is to be insured at the new $250,000 mark is only good for one year.  Never heard that one on the news.  CEO -- Chief Embezzlement Officer. CFO-- Corporate Fraud Officer.  BULL MARKET -- A random market movement causing an investor to mistake himself for a fina...

After a year or so with no bathroom scale my husband mentioned a few weeks ago he'd like to have one to check his weight.  It's just like him.  He's so disciplined.  He'll probably get on it, see he needs to lose like three pounds and it'll be off by the weekend.  Yep that's about how it works.  Me?  I stay away from scales.  Some woman stay away from mirrors.  I stay away from those gosh darned weight machines as much as possible.  &n...

When I went to see Sarah Palin on Sunday we were fooled. About two hours before Sarah was to show up, a Sarah Palin lookalike walked right past us and was escorted thru the barrier to go into the Market Square.  She was dressed like Sarah.  She had her hair done up like Sarah and with those glasses she was a dead ringer for Sarah.  So we all got excited.  As we watched this imposter walk up towards the crowd who had their backs to her because they were fa...

I like to go to the open houses around here to get fresh ideas.  Last week I went to one home that was professionally painted and it grabbed my attention.  It was beautiful. Originally I was planning on only doing focal walls but now I want to paint every nook and crannie.  My original color that came with the house is I think they call bisque which is basically a cream, off white color.  Now the hard part.  What colors do I consider? In the la...

Have you ever opened your mouth and thought to yourself almost immediately "why did I say that?"  How about "I can't believe I said that?"   I have lots of times.  I'm pretty good at it actually.  How many times have our big traps got us into trouble?   A little tongue can do big damage. Maybe that's where "a slip of the tongue" comes from.  It can destroy families, friendships and even communities.  A person's reputation can be slandered for ...

I love Pizza.  It's probably one of my favorite foods.  By the end of next August I'm wondering if I'll be really really sick of it.  Yesterday we had a grand opening of Cici's.  For those not familiar with this chain, it'a an all you can eat Pizza, Pasta, Salad and Dessert Buffet.  All for $5.49 plus tax.  If you want soda they said it's another $1.30 or you can get all the ice water you want.  We didn't have Cici's in the Northeast that I'm aware o...

Today I've been thinking about death.  Alot.  Seems to be a normal thing to do when one near you dies. Someone said that it is not death but dying which is terrible.  Do you think that's right?  I think death is pretty terrible for those left behind.  Death is separation and separation is not pleasant.  I got a call this morning from my new dear friend Agnes.  We've only known each other a handful of months but we're pretty close.  Today, she called me ...
