Well I got to see a first yesterday and it was pretty cool. Let me tell ya. I was all excited. As you get older, it's exciting to have these "first" experiences isn't it?
We heard the shuttle was to be launched at 5 pm yesterday and knew we had a great vantage point afforded us right here in our new neighborhood so we decided to take advantage.
About ten minutes to five we got in the golf cart and headed up the hill nearby. We were told that this place, two minutes from the house, is where a bunch of villagers gather to watch the shuttles take off. So we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed.
It was cool. Somebody had a radio on in the background and I heard "10 seconds" and then "there it is!"
"Where" I asked my husband. I didn't see anything at first.
"Right there under the clouds. Oh it just went into the clouds over there" as he pointed me in the right direction.
"Wait and it should come out over the clouds."
Well it did pop out right over the clouds. It took quite a few seconds tho, seemed like forever. It was thrilling to see this spaceship heading for space. It left a long streak line and we could see the fire and everything. We watched it slip into the blue sky totally becoming invisible to us right before our eyes. Cool!
Everyone clapped and I heard someone yell out, "fix that toilet up there."
Then everyone headed to their golf carts for home. The whole thing didn't last but five minutes total for us. When we got home we realized we could have sat in our front yard and seen it just as well. The only difference is that we probably wouldn't have been able to see it enter under that cloud because of the house across the street from us. The roofline covered the bottom of the big white fluffy cloud with the long streak we could still see coming out from it. But that wouldn't have mattered anyhow because I never saw that part.
Later we went to the local theatre here for the first time. It was a very nice plush movie house. Probably the nicest I've ever been too. We were pleased to see we received a hefty discount. The seats were high backed and very comfortable.
We went to see the new Indiana Jones movie. We wanted to see Leatherheads but the timing was better for Indiana Jones. It was an ok movie. Nothing to rave about. I thought the many fight scenes were archaic and way too long. At one point it was like "enough already." I felt like I was going back in time to some old John Wayne movie with the punching going on and on and one. Maybe they could use this scene for an Energizer Bunny commercial. But some of the special effects and scenery were pretty good.
So weighing the two between the five minute launch and the two hour movie I'd take the launch experience in a heartbeat.
Hopefully Leatherheads will be much better. Maybe tonight.
