Much is being talked about these days regarding public schools vs. private schools. Is one better than another? Are private schools a better choice for your child today? Is homeschooling where it's at now? I've gone on to say that if I had to do it over I'd homeschool in a heartbeat. I probably would if I were starting out today, because there is so much out there available to parents who make this choice now. When my children were starting kindergarten in the late 80's and early...
I hate goodbyes. It's hard to see loved ones leave and know it'll be a while till you see them again. Amanda and Ethan have left after a wonderful five weeks of getting to know each other. Of course Ethan had no clue who we were. We hadn't seen him since he was a month old. He arrived as an almost 10 month old and left at 11 months of age. And Amanda who has known us for eons.....well actually about one third of her young life now had a chance to really get to know her in-laws up ...
Family Programming. Remember those two words? Well I guess I kind of forgot about them myself until I recently read an article about this. I guess not having little kids around I've lost touch with Family Programming and instead have gone the way of game, reality and news shows. The only drama I really watch anymore is "Cold Case." Is there really such a thing as a "Family Time Slot" anymore? Whatever happened to the family hour of TV? Whatever happened to the family friendly...
My Grandmother was here the other day. She's getting very old now and has a habit of repeating herself alot. She came here to see the great-great-grandbaby Ethan. This is her first great-great. She hasn't been up here to see me in years. She doesn't drive, and she lives quite a ways for her to go out so I usually visit her when I can. She's a flaming red-head with a boisterous laugh. My mother calls it the witch's cackle. Ethan was actually aftraid of her. She's been like this f...
So here I am trying to do some catch up work on the computer. I have my household budget on Quick Books and am doing much needed data input. In the background is a screaming 10 month old baby. His mommy, my d-i-l, is not feeling well and my heart goes out to her. I remember those days. She came down with a cold yesterday. I remember taking care of my babies and being so exhausted I couldn't think straight especially when I was ill. So after spending the day chasing the little boy aro...
I've had a very busy week. What's new? Seems as tho my life is in overdrive lately. The top story here is the grandbaby has come to Maine for the first time ever. He's adorable....of course. He's a got a book full of funny faces to show us. He's quite the little man full of expression and quite the little charmer...just like his daddy. Today I took Amanda and Ethan to church for a ladies study and a produce pickup. Of course he stole the show. Without fail you clap your hand...
It's good to be back home!! We've been on the road for about 10 days and now we need a vacation to rest up from the vacation we just had. It was not at all restful. In fact, we're both pretty exhausted. This is quite the norm for us. We never seem to really have relaxing vacations like normal people do. I had it all planned.....or so I thought. That is, until David informed us a day or so before that he was intending to ask Aly to marry him during our vacation. This was after ...
Moms like their grown kids to call them once in a while, especially on those special days like Mother's Day. Since yesterday was Mother's Day I was wondering who would and wouldn't call. I figured my eldest and youngest were a given but unsure about the middle child. Why? Well, because he's a middle child. That and he's forgotten before. So on the way home from church we were taking bets who would call first. It wasn't much of a bet. We both hinged our bets on the same boy. We ...
My son David and Aly had a prom last weekend. Well sort of I guess. It was for Juniors and Seniors at their college and about 450 kids went to it. The only thing is....there was no dancing. I know that's kind of strange but I'm guessing it had something to do with the Christian College thing. Instead of dancing they had a very nice meal with entertainers and music. I don't know all the particulars but there was a Christian illusionist there, and they seemed to have a great time ev...
I'm glad our three boys got to spend Easter together even if it was SANS parents. From what I've heard they all had a good time even tho Brian was laid up some after going thru PRK last week. Because his eyes were very sensitive to light and movement he had to spend some of the weekend in his dark bedroom trying to find some relief. David left VA on Thursday and drove the seven hours or so to KY to be with Bobby. They hung around for a while going to church together that night and le...
Don't you just love family dynamics? What is it about families anyhow? Many times we treat family members much worse than we do complete strangers. Why is that? Shouldn't it be the other way around? Why do we argue and tick each other off? Is it because we know we can and get away with it? Well sometimes that's not the case but we do seem to take more abuse from family members than we do anyone else. I guess I'm in big doggie do doo with my eldest right now. Well maybe dog doo bu...
I was just reading a portion of a book about parenting. I picked it up for my daughter-in-law. In his book Kevin Leman, a therapist, counselor and talk show host both on radio and TV, talks about three different kinds of children. The chapter in his book was titled "Which Kids Cause the Most Stress? He sees the powerful child, the avenging child and the attention getter as categories he fits them in. I have three sons. Right off I could see the avenging child and the attention g...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVID!!! I told you you should be on the cover of a running magazine. Link "Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perserverance the race marked out for us." Heb 12:1 Continue running the race. As I say to my HS runners, keep up the good work!! You're doing great. See you on the road. LOVE, MOM

Ok, now most of you know my son is going to be having his first child. He's been told he's expecting a boy. At this point it better be, because I've bought gads of boy's clothes already. JC Penney just had an 80% off clothing sale, because they are moving to another building, and I took full advantage buying little boy's clothes clear until next summer. The big discussion now is the name. Since my son is an avid movie watcher, and I'm talking big time avid here, he's come up with the...
