Since there's been some talk on JU recently about the integrity of the gospels I thought I'd touch on it lightly here and also since somewhere along the way I promised I would. Of course I can't remember to who but a promise is a promise!! What are the gospels? Gospel means "good news." Of course this good news is the record of salvation that has been opened to mankind through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. These four gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are sort of...

Wednesday night at sundown was the commencement of Passover. Passover is a one day holiday in what scripture records as the Lord's Passover. Somehow over the centuries we've called it the "Jewish Passover." The next day after the Passover is the start of the Feast of Unleavened Bread which lasts for seven days. Together Passover with the Feast of Unleavened Bread is celebrated as an eight day holiday. Part of the celebration of Passover is the Afikomen ceremony. Before the meal, th...

During the Passover meal there are four cups of wine taken (usually watered down) . Wine is a symbol of the joy of the harvest, and since all the feasts given to the Jews by God center around their agricultural lives this would make sense as the beverage of choice. Four expressions were used in Ex 6:6-7 describing His promised deliverance from Egypt. 1. "I will bring you out." 2. "I will rescue you from their bondage." 3. "I will redeem you." 4. "I will take you as my people....

I have been researching Passover for some time and am now teaching about it via a women's group on Thursday mornings. This is the beginning of a series on the 7 Festivals God gave the Jews after their Exodus from Egypt. Each of these 7 festivals point to the one that would come and did come. The four Spring Festivals have been fulfilled with the remaining three Fall festivals yet to be. Just as the first four were fulfilled in Christ's first coming, the last three will be in his second....

Today in church we heard about a Gallup poll in the USA on Religion. It was a taken a few years ago. Where would you fit in? 95% believe in God 81% say they are religious........what does that say about the other 14% 70% say they are Christian 25% claim they lead a Christian life 20% say religion infulences their life 12% say they sacrifice all for God, 3% have a biblical worldview..........ouch!! That would be me. We also learned new words today such as " phro...

Well since I put out quotes on the political why not from the Christians? Here goes: objectively speaking that is...... "If one takes a historically objective approach to the question, it is found that even secular history affirms that Jesus lived on earth and was worshiped as God. He founded a church that has worshiped Him for 1,900 years. He changed the course of the world's history." William Robinson-(Our Lord p.29) I am so with you here... "I am trying here to prevent a...

I've read this before and just received it again. It's worth repeating and I think thought provoking. Can you imagine if we all were trying to kill each other just to get into heaven? It's quite a contrast to the words of Christ .."There is no greater Love than this one that is willing to give up his life for another." Allah or Jesus? by Rick Mathes.......... Last month I attended my annual training session that's required for maintaining my state prison security clearance. Dur...

Years ago well known author and speaker Josh McDowell set about to try and debunk Christianity. He figured he'd investigate the resurrection by examining the evidence and poke holes into what he believed to be a lie. He said "as much as I hated to, I had to admit that if I had been some first century propagandist trying to fake the resurrection of Jesus Christ, I would have done a number of things differently." He said.......If I were to fake the resurrection........... "I w...

This is great. This was written by an 8 year old named Danny Dutton who lives in Chula Vista, CA. He wrote it for his third grade homework assignment to explain God. I wonder if any of us could have done so well? EXPLANATION OF GOD: "One of God's main jobs is making people. He makes them to replace the ones that die, so there will be enough people to take care of things on earth. He doesn't make grownups, just babies. I think because they are smaller and easier to make. That way he...

With all the latest news about the Muslim extremists and their latest acts of violence I thought I'd jump into the arena but with a different twist. Lately I've been hearing that Islam and Christianity are compatible. Afterall they do follow the God of Abraham. But do they? Really? Let's take a closer look. Closer examination will show that the faiths of Islam and Christianity are incompatible. Mohammed claimed that God's revelation to him was infallible. In doing so making ...

Is there a God? How can we be sure? I believe this can be intelligently answered. The reason we believe He exists is He told us so and revealed Himself to us. God is not silent. He has revealed to us who he is, what he's like and what His plans are for Planet Earth. He has revealed these things thru the bible. This is not just a mere book but the very Word of God. The evidence is more than convincing to any that will honesty investigate its claims. Over the centuries m...

Hopefully Andy reads this because it's inspired by him by his question to me on another thread. A frequent accusation against the bible is that God is a God of wrath in the OT and of love in the NT. The OT contains many stories of God's judgment and wrath. Bible accusers claim this demonstrates a primitive, warlike God in contradiction to a loving Savior that Christ depicts. Jesus tells us to turn the other cheek afterall. While they seem to be in conflict, reflection will sho...

---------------------------------------------- Congress Says Christmas Should be Respected The U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution Thursday aimed at protecting the symbols and traditions of Christmas. Introduced by Rep. Jo Ann Davis, R-Va., H. Res. 579 is non-binding and does not carry the force of the law. It does express the attitude of the House that Christmas should not be excised from the public square. Davis pointed out that, despite the fact that 96 percent...

Another blogger here on JU and I are studying the book of Genesis. Yes, this is the biblical account of the beginnings of the world. Genesis means "beginning or origin." Of course we all know that scripture is without controversy.....LOL. But Genesis as well as the book of Revelation seem to be the most attacked books of the whole bible. The reason in my estimation? These two books chronicle our beginning and our ending. Of course in both we can see God as responsible for this. And ...

History does not pinpoint the exact date of Jesus' birth. Some have said early fall and some think it was in the spring. It was in the spring when the Shepherds would keep extra care over their flocks at night as this was the time the ewes bore their young. Around 200 AD theologians believed Jesus was born around May 20. Some thought maybe it was in March or April. In AD 385 Pope Julius declared December 25 as the day to celebrate His birth. The reason that date was chosen was partl...
