I like to go to the open houses around here to get fresh ideas.
Last week I went to one home that was professionally painted and it grabbed my attention. It was beautiful.
Originally I was planning on only doing focal walls but now I want to paint every nook and crannie. My original color that came with the house is I think they call bisque which is basically a cream, off white color.
Now the hard part. What colors do I consider?
In the last few weeks I've looked at every magazine and paint chip colors I could get my hands on and I still am undecided. Too many choices.
I'm thinking I need to pick a few colors that will go together as you go from room to room. You know, kind of flow together? So I'm looking at golds, greens, reds and tans or beiges.
So far I've painted one focal wall in my breakfast nook area which I did months ago in a color called Kakhi which is really a medium gold color. I also painted under and around the bar which separates my kitchen nook (breakfast table area) from the kitchen but is all open. It looks nice and I've had lots of compliments.
So this weekend I decided to continue with that color and paint around the three tri-windows in that same nook. After we did that, it seemed as though we need to now do that long outside wall that extends outside of the three windows and travels right into the open living room. Basically because there is a short wall to the left of these windows that is now bisque and then overhead is bisque and onto the living room which has a three door section that goes out to the lanai.
I hung red gingham cafe and valances on those three windows. The red against the gold looks quite nice but I have noticed my kitchen is now a bit darker because of it. Not sure I like that but the breakfast nook is cute.
So, so far I've only ventured gold and have umteen paint chip colors in reds, greens and tans to consider for the rest of the house. Now what to do?
My new friend I met last week ( another story) had a painter come to her house today so I listened in. She suggested my friend put a splash of red just over her cabinets alone. For her it would be one short wall with the rest of the kitchen and open living and dining rooms the same color.
I've toyed with red over my cabinets as well, but there are so many reds and red can be a hard color to pick. I was actually thinking above and below my cabinets with gold the rest of the kitchen and hallway into the kitchen.
Then I have the living room right off the kitchen but it really has only one wall mostly covered up by my large entertainment center bookcase and the dining room right off the living room. It's all open concept.
I'm not one to rush into anything preferring to take my time and make sure my decision is final. I do not want to go over something that just doesn't work. All that time and expense is not my cup of tea.
So here I sit, with paint chips all around me more confused than ever. I think I'm starting to grow color blind with all these choices.
