I love the heat. I love the sunshine. I love to see green grass for more than half the year. When I lived in New England, I would have the worst case of cabin fever around February-March. I couldn't stand it. It's all a distant memory now. While I still love New England and still consider it home in many ways, I love my new adopted state so much. It's not fun running in the humidity, but it's not as bad as running in snow. I love the fac...
Did you hear the latest news about the upcoming Olympics in China? There seems to be alot of controversy surrounding this world wide event. My son, who is an assistant sports editor for a newsroom, said there is much coming over the news wires right now about this. They may be canceling much of the Olympic activities due to pollution. All the endurance events may be canceled. Events such as running, biking and any outdoor activity would be squashed. He's wondering how Josh is goi...
With the Super Bowl in view, members of the New England Patriots are accustomed to questions about whether they would become the greatest team of all time with a victory on Sunday to cap an undefeated season. The question has prompted some Patriots to take an even longer view than NFL history. "Five years from now, nobody is going to remember who won this game and most people won't even care," Patriots wide receiver Ben Watson said as he was surrounded by media members from around the w...
Last week Josh finally won Nationals in College X-Country. Finally. This was his fourth time towing the line and he came through winning by one second. He has come as close as fourth two years ago and is predictably undefeated during the regular season going into the final big meet. Well, until this year that is. He was undefeated all season finally going all the way to win the big one. Josh is my son's roomie. David writes for Liberty's School Newspaper "The Champion." Everytime ...
Today was the big day. For some this was the big race of the year. The day they have been training months for. For others it's a day just to enjoy the crowds and hoopla surrounding this very talked about race content to just finish. It's called Beach to Beacon or B2B and today was the 10th anniversay of this most successful race. It starts at the entrance of a beach and ends at a very famous Lighthouse in Maine. If you see the Lighthouse landscape pictures of the Northeast most ...
I am in training....sort of. I have a huge 10K on Saturday. I've only run two races (5K) so far this summer, not nearly enough to be at all competitive for such a large race. I managed to do hillwork tonight, and it was brutally hot and humid. I was glistening big time after this very hot workout. I passed my husband as I was running down the hill and he was absolutely soaked as he huffed and puffed his way up after running his circuit of seven. This race, put on by Joan Benoit, ...
Since I've been stirring the pot a bit lately, I thought I'd put out something a bit more bland but informative at the same time. Even if you're not a runner as I am, certainly you've come into contact with runners as you buzz around town in your automobiles. If so, I just wanted to give you some helpful hints on how to help that next guy or gal you see huffing and puffing down the street. These things may not even have occurred to you unless you've done a bit of running yourself. So...
My son David called to tell us the good news. His roommate and buddy Josh McDougal broke the four minute mile yesterday in VA. He was very excited to not only see this in person but see it happen to his good friend. I guess Josh did a 3:57 breaking his PR of 4:01. This is the fastest time in college this year for sure. This kid is unbelievable. He's broken records all over the place. I think he's like a 15 time All American. He's undefeated in the regular seasons losing usually ...
Well it's finally over. We had our last meet, the big one on Saturday. We went to the every exciting State Meet in the northern part of our state and ran our best. Our last week was one of anticipation and unitedness. All the girls stuck it out together regardless if they were invited to the big dance or not. We can only put our top seven runners in and we had thirteen girls. The other six were a great support system for the Varsity team. We had some very good runs this past wee...
This is where the rubber meets the road. Today was the day that counted. Today was the day all the teams in the state met for their regional meets. Today was the day opportunites were turned into triumph. Today was the day we earned a State berth. YES, WE MADE IT!! Our team will be going to States again this year. In the last seven years we've made the trip six times. Two years ago, we were more than a bit disappointed not to be in the position we found ourselves in today.

Today was week three in our weekly runing series. I did not go last week as I could not get out of work on time and get the dog free before heading out. So it basically came down to the dog or my run. The dog won out. Poor Quincy was on the screen porch all day and I couldn't bear to leave him there for another two hours or so while I took a run through the woods. Just before the race started we had quite the t-storm. It poured harder than ever and I was wondering if the race would ...
Yesterday was the first day of the summer running series we are involved in. It's a lot of fun. We belong to a running club called the Milers. We get together on Tuesdays and run 3.1 miles thru the woods being timed the whole while. This is the second year of doing this. Last year we had an outlet store called Saucony come to town and I'm thinking they started the ball rolling here for this running series. The course this year has been slightly changed and is a true 3.1 trail run a bi...
