The Four Minute Mile Broken Again
Published on April 1, 2007 By KFC Kickin For Christ In Sports & Leisure
My son David called to tell us the good news. His roommate and buddy Josh McDougal broke the four minute mile yesterday in VA. He was very excited to not only see this in person but see it happen to his good friend. I guess Josh did a 3:57 breaking his PR of 4:01. This is the fastest time in college this year for sure.

This kid is unbelievable. He's broken records all over the place. I think he's like a 15 time All American. He's undefeated in the regular seasons losing usually at Nationals. He's yet to garner that National Title but it's only a matter of time. Maybe this Spring will be his time. He is a three season runner for Liberty and something to behold whether it be on a Cross Country course or track.

Jerry just happened to be there watching when this happened. The right place at the right time. So the cameras started flashing when Jerry and Josh got together and a pic of the two of them was displayed up front and center this morning at Jerry's church. Josh was a bit nervous about all the attention. His hair has gotten quite long and worthy of reps. So, because he just happens to like his hair long, he's been wearing a snow hat to school everyday. But now he's got the head of the University in his back pocket, so he had to come up with an excuse for his long locks. So he told Jerry that he's like Samson. His long hair helps him to run fast. I'm not so sure Falwell bought it, but hey, this kid just brought much recognition to his school. What's he gonna say?

David had said months ago it was only a matter of time before Josh broke this coveted time. He's expected to turn pro after college and should be an Olympic contender in 08 God willing. They are Juniors this year. My son is having a blast watching and being so close to one of the best runners in the country right now. Hahahaha in fact, David said that Josh came out the other day in David's old boxers. How's that for closeness? David, to my dismay, is always throwing away perfectly good clothing. Well, whatever he throws away, Josh picks up. This is why I stopped buying clothing for my son years ago. Why bother?

So remember the name and remember the Summer Olympics of 08 and look for the kid in long flowing hair.......and remember...you heard it here first.......LOL.

Josh did a 3:57

Now THAT is hookin' it. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away I could run the quarter in just under a minute and when I crossed the finish line, I was DONE! I can't imagine doing that FOUR times!

I'll remember the name!

hahahahah that's right........we'd call it "hoofin" it around here.

The best I ever did was break the 7 minute mile!

that's me too I think. Of course I cannot for the life of me remember my times of yesteryear. But we were just talking about this last night. About the best I think I could even be physically capable of is to break a six minute mile and that would be alot of work for me to do. I know I ran a 6:43 mile when I was about 39 or 40 and I was in fairly good shape. My husband was wondering if he could ever ever have a chance of breaking the five minute mile again. We both decided it wasn't worth the effort.

I did a mile in under a minute...thank God for cars, eh?

I could never run that fast...just thinking about it makes me tired.
