Anyone Want to Guess?

Some updates on the race for Prez.

Actor Stephen Balwin has come out for Huckabee. He had some kind words for McCain but felt Huckabee stood for the things he believed in the most.

So the race here in Florida appears so far to be close between McCain and Huckabee which is funny because Rudy has put all of his eggs into this Palmetto State's basket.

I'm not sure so much about the Hillary/Obama saga and am trying to find the temperature here on them. So far it seems to be more talk about the Republicans than Dems around here.

From what I understand the evangelicals are torn between McCain and Huck and could be okay with almost any of the Republicans with the exception of Rudy.

South Carolina political scientist Dr. Brent Nelson says the Republican presidential race is now John McCain's to lose. He seems to hold his own with the people Huckabee gets along with.

Time will tell. The attention now is on Florida and I intend to vote in my first Florida State Primary January 29th.

How about an article on the reasons? You dropped a few, but an in depth listing of your problems with him might convince some here. Might not, but then if you are calling individuals in Florida, an article here would reach more people in less time.

I agree Doc. Romney has not won my vote either way. I would be interested.

How about an article on the reasons?

I would like to read something like this as well.....might be very timely, given today is D-Day in Florida and we may be narrowing the field of candidates....I want to learn as much as possible about the candidates.

Last night at his State of the Union address, Bush promised to veto all bills that came forward with earmarks that hadn't been voted upon. Romney said in an interview that as President he would continue that which is a big plus in my mind.

It looks like it's going to be down to Romney and McCain for the Republican ticket. I guess with McCain you get both worlds... you get to vote republican while voting for a democrat.

hahahah yep. It does look or appear to be as you said Ted. At least that's what the latest polls indicate.

I'm getting ready to go down to do my civic duty here soon. I'm hoping the lines aren't too bad. I'll let you know what the scuttlebutt is when I return.

This will be my first Florida election and am wondering how it will differ from that of Maine.

It's hard AD for me to comment on that which I don't know. I'm not in tune with all this what you wrote of. I mean maybe Huck really doesn't believe McCain is dishonest. I'm thinking that's pretty interesting to say since they are running against each other. It almost seems like an honest thing to say.

WALLACE: Let's start with the two frontrunners in Florida. John McCain says that Mitt Romney once supported a timetable for U.S. withdrawal from Iraq. Romney says McCain is being, quote, "dishonest." Who's right?

HUCKABEE: I've never known John McCain to be dishonest. He and I disagree on some issues, certainly on immigration and how we ought to build a border fence by a time certain, which I believe. I support a human life amendment. He does not.

But dishonest? I've never seen John McCain say something that was just blatantly untrue. The reason that I'm aware of Mitt Romney's statement about the secret timetable is because that was originally proposed by a senator from my state, Senator Mark Pryor.

And there are published reports that I've witnessed and seen, more than one, in which Mitt Romney did, in fact, talk about support for not a public timetable but a secret timetable that would be held by administration officials, members of Congress."

Then either Huckabee is also dishonest or he's running low on oxygen from having his head so far in the sand by saying such things.

Here's what McCain said:

McCain, at a town hall in Fort Myers, said Friday: "Now, one of my opponents wanted to set a date for withdrawal that would have meant disaster."

He was talking about Romney, and linked the former Massachusetts governor to Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton, who has said she would begin to withdraw troops within 60 days of becoming president, if elected in November.

"If we surrender and wave a white flag, like Senator Clinton wants to do, and withdraw, as Governor Romney wanted to do, then there will be chaos, genocide, and the cost of American blood and treasure would be dramatically higher."

Romney never embraced the idea of a public withdrawal date. When Clinton and other Democrats sought a public date or timetable last year, Romney said in an interview that the U.S. should have timetables, but not public ones.

Here is the quote McCain cited, from ABC's "Good Morning America" in April 2007.

Question: "Do you believe that there should be a timetable in withdrawing the troops?"

Romney: "Well, there's no question that the president and Prime Minister (Nouri) al-Maliki have to have a series of timetables and milestones that they speak about. But those shouldn't be for public pronouncement. You don't want the enemy to understand how long they have to wait in the weeds until you're going to be gone. You want to have a series of things you want to see accomplished in terms of the strength of the Iraqi military and the Iraqi police, and the leadership of the Iraqi government."

Romney's campaign said he was talking about benchmarks toward success, not dates for withdrawal, when he said the U.S. and Iraqi presidents "have to have a series of timetables and milestones."

Choose Yesterday's show and fast forward to 11:30 to hear the 1 minute audio of this interview in question. It will give you a much clearer picture.

So either Huckabee is also dishonest about not knowing McCain to be dishonest or he is hyperventilating due to lack of oxygen by having his head stuck in the sand.

This just happens to be the most recent incident where as there are many others.

McCain said that his Immigration bill wasn't Amnesty when it was.
He lied about stooping to low blows in campaigning.
There are many more!

But these must be personality issues against McCain too?

Alas, it's clear that we Republicans don't have a candidate with impeccable conservative records. Maybe Newt Gingrich will come in as a "dark horse"! He's really conservative if one can get passed his personal baggage.

Dream on, sister. He's unelectable.

That's why he's on a dark horse. He would have to steal the elections in the middle of the night! hahahahahha

If someone wants to vote for Robo Mormon thats up to them. Theres nothing I could say that would stop someone from doing that. The only remaining Republican voting block that is still reasonable and rational are Huckabee supporters. The rest are committed at this point, or should be committed. And by committed, I do mean 'committed.'

Well I'll take that as a compliment.

Well I voted. It was different than Maine. In Maine we had paper ballots and here it was done on computer screen. It didn't seem to be as private as Maine either. I felt like anyone could look over my shoulder and see how I'm voting if they chose to.

There were no lines, no waiting here and I liked that. I ran to the polling place which was just over a mile from my house. I then, after voting, just continued on my way running the loop.

I heard a rumor there was a problem down here with the system so I'll have to wait and see what that scuttlebut is all about.

Thanks AD for the info. I'll sink my teeth into that and try to see what you're saying there.
