How does it work?

Well as you probably know, I'm fairly new to this blogging thing. I was just having fun being an anonymous user when I got shamed into starting my own blog by my son and...... ahem.....another blogger and you know who you are!!!! . Now I've kinda gotten used to the idea and have questions.

What does the point system mean? It doesn't seem to make sense to me. I'm guessing more responses more points? One article I wrote only has two responses and many points while another has more responses and less points. So do the number of words in a particular article give extra points? The more words, the more points? Or maybe it's cuz more read it without leaving a comment and that in itself lent itself to more points?

And what does the poiint system have to do with anything anyway? To show how popular one is in the blogging world by the amount of hits? What happens when you hit 10,000 points? Do you win a new car? Or get a home makeover? Inquiring minds wanna know.

I don't know all of the details but you get points for how many people read your article, you get points for comments and you get points if someone says your article is interesting or insightful.

I don't think there is any gold at the end of the rainbow. The more points you have you move up the list of top blogger and top blogsite.

this is what happens if you are not careful.

Thanks Locamama..... I've never hit the insightful comment or the trolling either for that matter not knowing what that means exactly. hmmmmm.......So by hitting insightful it gives more points? I've never seen that or "trolling" checked off before. I'll give it a try when appropriate.

There are 2 types of points.  One is to list your site in the top Blog sites.  These are based on the past 30 days only.  Then there are the permanent points.  These are the ones you see as the top bloggers.

For the former points, there are a lot of ways to accumulate them.  But mostly it has to do with how many people view your article, how many articles, and how many replies.  You get extra if you are featured.

On the latter, it is kind of easier to figure out.  You get 15 points for each article you write, and 5 points for each comment people leave on your blog.  Plus you get 5 points for each comment you leave on other blogs.  Anonymous users are supposed to generate 1 point per comment, but I think that is broken right now as I have seen some anonymousst comments and the point total did not change.  Also, if someone rates your article as interesting or insightful, that gives you additional points, as does if they rate your comment insightful (that is a little bit more complicated).

Here is an article on the way the points work: https://www.joeuser.com/AboutScoring.asp

......oh now I know why you wanted me to GET A LIFE ( a JU life that is)........you musta got alot points from me!!!! Happy to oblige tho!!!

Actually, no.  It is because many of us Lock our articles to JU users only (to keep out the bad anonymous trolls).  I just liked your comments, and did not wnat to deny you the ability to comment on my stuff.  I dont need the points.

And I guess now, every one knows who I are:

the point system helps tremendously as far as visibility on the inernet. When I posted my anti-cps resolution, it came up number one in a search using the county, state, and Child protective services in the google search terms. And I was redressed by the Quixtar mafia on another thread because the search returns for a certain quixtar don with bad hair returned so high. That's the main trhing it does, is get you readers.

Of course (shameless plug), you can also get more readers to your blog by going on my site and clicking on the links and signing up at blogexplosion and bloglicker. It's free (although, blogclicker does have a few paid account options that I think are worth it), and can bring a lot of new readers to your site.
