Certainly Not a Three's Company

I grew up listening to many different bible teachers speak about Russia and Iran going on the attack together against Israel in the future.  My first recollections of this subject came in the 1970's when I was a young teenager.  Of course back then we had the cold war going on so it wasn't so far fetched.  But then after Reagan's famous  "Mr. Gorbachev tear down this wall" speech some started to doubt this prediction or at least wonder when it would now take place.  Instead of an imminent expected Russian attack we seemed to be getting along pretty jolly well.

Many times on this forum I've mentioned this background information regarding the future of Israel per the study of prophecy.   It's one of the things that many who watch such things have been keeping an eye on for a very long time knowing that just as it all started over there so to will it end over there.

In recent times, we've watched, for the first time in history, Russia and Iran becoming increasingly friendly towards one another, exactly as predicted, while at the same time making Israel very nervous.  Certainly  Israel must be on high alert right now.

It's no secret that the countries surrounding Israel want them obliterated off the face of the map.  They are and have been surrounded by enemies since the birth of their young nation.

Earlier this spring, my bible study teacher who is an older Jewish Christian who spends much time in Israel warned us that it was his feeling that by summer's end we may see Israel attack Iran.

He could very well be right.  I just received this note from a friend and since this is only days away it won't take long to see if this is sensationalism; crying wolf or not:

Something major is in the works and it is very likely not good. So many have said Iran will be "ready to go" within days as it concerns her nuclear capability that it has become a bit like crying wolf. Few pay attention anymore.

Well, you'd better listen up.

The Jerusalem Post reports that Russia will start loading uranium fuel into the nuclear reactor of the Bushehr nuclear power station in Iran on August 21. This is the crucial step in outfitting Iran with nuclear weapons of mass destruction.

Russia says the latest U.N. sanctions against Iran will not affect the Bushehr project. This project was slated to happen in late September but now we are just days away from the point of no return. Israel must decide what she will do, and quickly.

Former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton told Fox News that, "Once the fuel rods are loaded it makes it essentially immune from attack by Israel. Because once the rods are in the reactor, an attack on the reactor risks spreading radiation in the air, and perhaps into the water of the Persian Gulf."

The story immediately became front-page news in Israel, which has laid precise plans to carry out an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities. Bolton made it clear that it is widely assumed that any Israeli attack on the Bushehr reactor must take place before the reactor is loaded with fuel rods. If that is the case, Israel must act before August 21.

I don't believe Israel will be bothered if the plant is fueled. Any residual radiation might keep people away. I believe they will wait until the Russians are out of there. Interesting times to say the least.

I don't think they will do anything at all.  Attacking it is tantamount to an accusation that both Iran and Russia are lying and if they do that Russia will have no reason to go along with the west with regard to Iran/Israel.

I do not see Russia having any reason now, so Israel has really nothing to lose in that regard.

As long as Russia is paid for the facility, fuel, and no Russians are killed, it is my belief Russia couldn't care less about the plant being destroyed. In fact it would void any maintenance responsibilities they would be liable for. It's all about cash for them.

It's all about cash for them.

They are good capitalists.

It would an insult to the ability of Russia to enforce its agreements with Iran and its own sovereignty.  The nuclear reactor does not fall under the Nuclear weapon rules and Russia has an agreement that it will ship all fuel in, and fuel out.

If they can do it it removes a huge argument that Iran has for going after nuclear fuel and technology as it will have the nuclear power it says it needs but without the ability to get weapon grade uranium.

It makes one curious why they insist on refining their own uranium. They can't make the fuel rods that will be used at Bashir.

Exactly, but if they are not allowed to use the power station that Russia has built they will have an argument for continuing to build there own - and I bet that the spent fuel will not be sent to Russia from that one.

I do not see them as needing any excuses.  They have already demonstrated they are going to do what they want and the rest of the world be damned.  Whether the reactor goes into use or not, they will continue to refine the ore for the weapons program.

My feelings as well.

I'm not opposed to any nation wanting nuclear generated electrical power, although Iran certainly doesn't pass the smell test, floating on a sea of oil. One would think building a refinery (they have to import gasoline) would be more important. I wish the folks that plead to let Iran build their nuke power plant would support building more in the US, but that is another issue.

So why does energy rich Iran need nuclear power, at such a break-neck speed, as if their life depends on it? There could only be one reason, they want the weapon. IMO it was a mistake to let Pakistan get it (and possibly India, hell everyone after the Russians, we were naive about them too). But look at Pakistan, hardly a stable country. it is treated with kid gloves which doesn't seem to help. Iran will be similar. What to do. Personally, I would not be opposed to any nation that begins development for non-peaceful purposes, be attacked (conventionally) unilaterally (their nuclear facilities) by decree. Put the warning out there, let them decide if the response warrants the effort.

Why? Because with every new member of the club, the world becomes less safe. The chance for the usage becomes greater. Where does it end? Sometimes the distasteful things must be done, to keep the planet safe from a quick death. I know this won't be popular, but what would one prefer the blinding flash or someone angry at us? The current players have been well disciplined, Iran and N. Korea are wild cards. They are capable of the inconceivable and they use that to their advantage. History is full of examples where the worlds tyrants should have been stopped. Conventional wars will only get harder to wage if everyone is packing a nuke. When there is nothing left to lose the vanquished will use the weapon of last resort without batting an eye.
