Dancing Is Fun

Before we left for Monday night's dance lessons my husband remarked that the best thing about this night was that it was "three down with three to go."

Now, that was ugly.

He says things like that but I really do believe he likes it although at times I'm not entirely sure.  I'm thoroughly enjoying our Monday nights having gotten over the frustration and jitters of the first night.

We actually did quite well.  I made a comment to him during one of the lessons that I thought if we were going to be graded I thought we'd get an A.  I said that mostly because it seemed as tho we finally "got it."  It doesn't mean we still don't make mistakes and all but we've got the concept down and we can dance a set or two without totally screwing up.

When we first showed up, the music was on and couples were gliding across the floor practicing their moves.  So we got into position and joined them.  We watched one couple and figured out pretty quickly that last part of the Foxtrot that we had forgotten over the week.  As we practiced the dance, the instructors (dance police) roamed the room stopping couples and adjusting their bad form or behaviors.   We'd hold our breaths a little when we saw them watching us and then breathed a sigh of relief when they moved on.  Apparently we looked good enough not to be stopped.

It felt easy so we just kept going.  It wasn't too long before my husband uttered the words "I'm bored."  After about the fourth time I told him to stop it.  While we knew the dance pretty well we still weren't perfect so I sugguested we work on our presentation a bit more.  So he started into the sexy broody look again saying he'd work on his sensuality...ya, right.  You work on that.

Durng the past week we hardly practiced the Foxtrot at all using our time mainly for working on our  Rumba which we felt was our weaker dance.  During the Rumba class the dance police once again roamed the room seeking whom they could devour.  Not really but it just sounded good...LOL.

Anyhow this time we got stopped!  Gah!  He looked at me and asked "what are you looking for?"  He then proceded to look around the floor, head down, as if he dropped something pretending to dance at the same time.  I conceded that I do have a bad habit of looking down at my feet too much.  I run that way too so I guess it's a bad habit I picked up from running.  Anyhow along with that admonition he gave me a great compliment.  He said "when you've got it, and you've got it, don't look down."    Then I remembered that last week the other dance instructor told me I had a pretty face and that I needed to show it.  I guess she was saying to look straight up as well but just in different way.

I tried hard the rest of the night to look intently into my husband's eyes.  You know, like they do in Dancing With the Stars?  They keep their heads high and straight and look intently at their partner's faces.   When we do this, we just break out in laughter.  I guess we need to work on that.

At least during the second lesson my husband didn't say he was bored.  I think the second lesson was more challenging keeping him quite busy.  He really wants to do this right as he does everything else in life.

We're halfway done with the lessons, but I already feel that we could glide around any dance floor now without feeling like we don't know what the heck we're doing.   Maybe that speaks about my desire of structure in everything I do.  I guess I'm really not that good at flying by the seat of my pants.  At least now when it comes to dancing I don't have to.  Instead I can have feet that fly and glide around the dance floor and at the same time have a ball doing it.   But we really need to practice, practice and practice to get this down pat.

Next week should be really fun.
