Be Prepared To Put Out Fires That Will Come

We went to see the movie "Fireproof" last night after hearing some good reviews and were not disappointed.  It was really good.

It starts off in the beginning with the star of the movie, Kirk Cameron, who plays a Fire Chief, chastising a rookie firefighter saying he was never, ever, to leave his partner under any circumstances during a call.  His partner depended on him and needs to know he's there.  It is a safety issue and very important to be there for your buddy especially during very critical times.   I didn't understand the irony behind that statement and how it related to marriages until after the movie. It definitely laid the foundation for what was to come.

This movie, made by the same group who made "Facing The Giants," was a tear jerker for sure.  I had been told previously that my soon to be daughter-in-law criedl throughout the movie using my son's sleeve as a tissue.

Sure enough I heard the blowing of noses and saw the wiping of eyes last night especially during the mid to end point of this movie.  While I didn't quite let it flow, I was doing some blinking away of tears especially near the end.  This movie really hits the mark of the heart for sure.

"Fireproof"  is especially good for those going thru marriage difficulties but serves as a reminder to all of us that marriage is a commitment based on "for better or worse."  Quite often we'll take the "better" but are not in for the long haul when it comes to the "worse." We may be okay with the "health" part of the vows but are not really interested in the "sickness" portion that will eventually come along.  Sometimes it seems easier to just let the building burn rather than to put effort into saving the building.

One of the comments made in the movie was that marriages weren't fireproof.  While that's true we must not just give up when things start to heat up.  We need each other, as partners, to help each other put out the little fires that crop up from time to time.

I do think this movie is going to spread like wildfire and wouldn't be surprised to see it gross more than their previous big hit "Facing The Giants" did.

Go see "Fireproof" and take someone along who could use a good marriage booster.  You just might help a couple save their home and family.
