I don't think this disqualifies Palin or anything else, but gets me to thinking about teenage pregnancy in general.

In the case you cited I'd wonder what other problem existed in the family.  There are many roads leading to WHY a girl has unprotected sex with a boy as a teen not the least of which is because she WANTS too.

IS this a situation where abstinence only was taught, so when the daughter got into the situation and WANTED to go ahead and consummate she didn't know about condoms?  Did she not have enough self possession to insist on them?  Or was it simply a girl and a boy, hormones, and the heat of the moment?  Or heck, mom was preggers, did she just want a baby for herself?

I am curious, but wouldn't want to invade her privacy to get the answers....tho I am sure they will come out eventually...probably in her memoirs, after her mom is president.

How's that for planning ahead?

I am all for family values, abstinence and parental supervision.  The Apostle Peter said if you're going to suffer then suffer because of righteousness sake not because of something you did.  So, as a parent, believing in all these things and enforcing them, I know I did all I could.  If I didn't and things happened to my children, I should not feel guilty.

But let me clarify.  I DID NOT have a teenager get pregnant on my watch so it wasn't a similar story .  Abstinence was taught in my household and not one of my teenagers got a girl pregnant.    My son, at 23 was a fully functioning adult who also married before the child was born and in fact, had been planning to marry this girl, now his wife, anyway.

35 years ago?  basically sexuality was taught.  And the consequences, but nothing else.  No moral play.  This was about as non-religious a school as you could get.

But I did say 3 hot sisters and it was the second one.  Actually, there was a total of 5 girls (and 2 boys).  She was the only one.  You are looking for answers in all the wrong places.  Just as my siblings and I were all raised the same, we are not all the same.

All we can do is teach our children the right way.  They either listen or they don't.  It doesn't mean you change what you believe or teach something to them that goes astray from your core beliefs to suit the wayward child. 

Sometimes the consequences is all that is needed and does more than any condemnation will ever do.   Some learn by making their own mistakes and some learn by looking around at other's mistakes and vow not to go there. 

One thing I've noticed while watching this Bristol Palin is the fact that she seems much more mature than most 17 year olds.  Of course, I'm only observing from afar, but she as the eldest daughter of a busy working mom most likely had to shoulder a bit more responsibility than alot of girls her age, especially having such younger siblings, and it shows in her face. 

While having a little coffee klatsch with voters in San Francisco a few months ago, he was taped saying those very words.  I'd bet you could still find it on YouTube.  The context was exactly the same - if one of his teenage daughters were to make a 'mistake' (the same 'mistake' Bristol Palin made), he wouldn't want her to be punished with a baby.  You really have to hear the audio to understand the flippancy with which he made the remark, though.

FTR, his mother was married when she had him, not that the notion of 'mistake' applies only to unmarried women, mind you.

It happens.  The fact that we even know about it is a testament to their pro-life values. 

What about his mother BTW.  I have heard him talk about his grandmother, but never his mother.  Is she dead?  Just curious.

I may have been incorrect about his mother's marital status at the time she became pregnant with BO - I heard today that she actually wasn't, but that's hearsay at the moment.  That would be a rich irony for the lefty bloggers if that is true, but then 'ready, fire, aim' is their motto.

So BO's mother WASN'T married when she found herself pregnant with a black man in the 60's?  Not a good time to have that happen.

So, what he's saying is.........he doesn't want to give his grandchildren the same right to live as he was given, should his daughters end up pregnant with an "unwanted pregnancy." 

nice guy....and we want to vote for him for President?  The land of the free?  Free to live I would hope. 

I wonder if his mother really wanted him when she was white, young, and pregnant with a black man's child  back in the 60's?
