Congrats to Bobby and Courtney

Two down, one to go.

With two sons now married, David just newly married in May, we've been saying "two down."

I'm hearing wedding bells off in the distance once again.  Our eldest son just asked his girlfriend Courtney to marry him this past weekend.  They haven't set a date but April could be a possibility.

Turns out it was this same day last August that David proposed to Aly and almost the exact hour David said.

It seems as tho poor Bobby was under a bit of pressure!  Ha! He's marrying a twin and her twin sister just got engaged herself.  Since the two couples have been dating about the same amount of time and since Bobby was eventually going to marry Courtney anyhow, the pressure was on.  The handwriting was on the wall.  I think he was hoping to finish up his schooling first but he'll be pushing 27 by the time he gets married anyhow and almost finished with his post grad work.

So the research for the perfect ring was on.  In typical scientific fashion, he spent a good month researching diamond rings in every way imaginable from size, shape, glitter, quality etc.  When he finally purchased the ring, after doing much research on the company behind the purchase, he took it to an independant appraiser who said the girl receiving this ring should consider herself a lucky girl.  The ring was almost absolutely flawless with an excellent quality to it.

So the next step was going to the parent's home, without Courtney finding out, to ask for her hand in marriage.  This was the hardest part of the whole deal although I'm not so sure why.  There was NO way they were going to say no, heh!

Of course they didn't and are very happy that both of their girls have met nice boys.  He was extremely nervous.  Asking Courtney herself was a piece of cake next to this.  When I asked why this was harder, he said because he already knew the answer that would come from his girlfriend but the parents were another matter.  The dad could be sarcastic and Bobby was afraid he wouldn't be able to recognize the sarcasm or not.  He was already a mess going in he wouldn't have been able to deal with a sarcastic answer.   Not to worry, instead, the dad almost cried.

We've gone from having just three sons, two plus years ago, to having three daughters-in-law and two grandsons join our ever growing family.

Congrats to Bobby and Courtney.

Thanks guys.  It's nice to even out the score after having so many years of testosterone flowing thru the house.  Now if I can just arrange for a few granddaughters to show up, all would be absolutely perfect!

Pink and white Nikes anyone?

Congrats!

You are going to have a housefull of grandkids soon KFC.  I hope you get a few girls in there somewhere.  (Though I am partial to boys.)

Aren't you glad YOU don't have to pay for these weddings?  You'd be BROKE.

Or you can be like my aunt. 4 Boys and no granddaughters for a very LOOOOONG time (until the youngest son had a child late in life - mid 30s).

I am too, but still want that granddaughter to go shopping and hanging out with someday. Besides, granddaughters take care of you in your old age.....LOL!

when my youngest was born, my husband's first remark to me was "no weddings to pay for!"
I think he was trying to smooth things out because I did want that third one to be a girl.

well that's the joke around here. Seems as tho my two eldest sons are saying they are much too manly (ya right) to have girls so they are leaving the girl producer job to the youngest and the way it looks right now he's in no hurry.

Congrats!

So, do you think you are a good MIL, the kind a woman hopes she gets, or are you the evil MIL a woman complains about to her friends?  Hehe.

PS - I plan to be at least slightly evil.

So, do you think you are a good MIL, the kind a woman hopes she gets, or are you the evil MIL a woman complains about to her friends? Hehe

I had a great M-i-l model so I was fortunate.  I think I'm a good M-i-l.  I'm more apt to take Amanda's position than Brian's these days...so does that make me not evil?

my new d-i-l,  to be,  told my son she wants to be like me someday when she gets old....hahaha not sure but I think there's a compliment in there somewhere.  She likes the fact that I'm active and like to do fun things....like play, bike and run.   I guess her parents don't do any of these types of things.

When I think of an evil m-i-l I think of one whose d-i-l can't do anything right and is constantly threatened and possessive of her (in my case) sons.  I'm not like that at all.  I was a bit like that prior to their marriage but after.....hands off.  Their responsibility is first and foremost to their wives, not to me anymore.  So I'm ok with that.

PS - I plan to be at least slightly evil.

haha sounds like Marie Barone perhaps?  Be careful.  To be a bad m-i-l means the possibility of alienating your children and eventual grandchildren.   To me, it's not worth the aggravation, although I'm sure I tick them off from time to time with my "honest" speak.......
