Vengeance Not His Style

I went to Chick-fil-A recently for really the first time.  The food was actually pretty good.  I got a grilled Chicken Sandwich and some fresh squeezed lemonade and thought it was quite yummy.   Definitely one of my new favorite fast food places up there with Subway, the best.  Anyhow read this in the news today and wondered how many of us would have been this forgiving?  I'm sure the parents were grateful.  I wonder if these girls appreciate what was done for them?   Notice how young they were.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. - Chick-fil-A restaurant founder S. Truett Cathy has decided two girls accused of causing $30,000 in damage to his home should be punished with a writing assignment instead of charges.

In a deal Cathy worked out with their parents, the girls must write "I will not vandalize other people's property" 1,000 times. They are also banned from watching TV and playing video games and must read a good book.

New Smyrna Beach police told the Daytona Beach News-Journal the preteens broke into Cathy's Florida home two weeks ago and sprayed fire extinguishers, threw eggs, and left water running in the kitchen.

What seemed to bother Cathy most about the crime were the " bad words" scrawled throughout the residence.

"They upset me," he told the News-Journal. " I will not repeat them, but they had something to do with sex."

The elementary schoolers told a police investigator they were bored when they committed the crime sometime between July 11 and 15.

The 87-year-old Cathy -- who founded the fast food chain known for its cow billboards -- said he did not want to prosecute the girls and leave them with a criminal record.

We are a big fan of chick-fil-a at my office. Try the chicken salad with the spicy dressing (if you like spicy), I love it. Subways, not too bad but I think Jersey Mikes and Jimmy Johns are way much better. I suggest you try those as well since I know you live somewhere near me.

I think this was a good punishment. Do we truly need to make criminals with records and put them together with the worst scum of the universe and miss school as well out of children (cause teens are still children) just because they make poor choices and did some damage to other peoples property that cost them money. I would think if it was to the point of total destruction, burning down the house or hurting or killing someone then yes, jailtime. But I think some children just need a lesson and be shown love and compasion sometimes. If he was willing to forgive and not ruin their lives, then everyone else should feel the same. But thats just me.

That's grace right there. Note that he didn't take away discipline. But the discipline was changed so that they can learn from it and move on, instead of being stigmatized by it for the rest of their lives.

Elementary schoolers?! were bored?!  That is horrible.  Well hopefully the fact that they got a second chance will keep them on the straight and narrow from now on.  Well it's nice to see that Truett Cathy walks the walk.  He's obviously a good man.

Now I really plan to visit Chik-fil-a. I've eaten there a couple times, but I'm a burger guy.
