I've believed for some time now that secularism is being taught in our school systems and most have no idea what this really means. People are led to believe they can always trust the schoolbooks their children are using. Where are we heading with this? Why are parents homeschooling in droves today?
What is being taught in history today nowhere resembles what I or my mom or grandmother were taught as children. A whole generation of children are being robbed of their country's religious heritage. There is little resemblance of the history taught the first 150 years of our Nation in comparison to what is being taught today.
There have been groups of students denied access to classrooms all across the country before or after school because they want to hold a bible study. Such meetings for politics, social activism, or athletics are ok, but not for religious purposes? Thank goodness for the bill in 1985 by Congress that allows equal access. But even after that some obsessively secular school administrators have chosen to cancel all meetings so that Christian students are not given the opportunities to use school facilities. Sometimes lawsuits had to be brought in just to gain access to a classroom. But how did we get here?
There was a day when Bibles were freely distributed in our schools and no one complained about separation of church and state. In fact, one of the first jobs in our first Congress was for the printing of Bibles for the conversion of the Indians. How many know that? I bet that's not in our modern textbooks.
In Columbus, Ohio a veteran teacher was forbidden her 15 year long practice of giving every family in her classroom a bible. Now she did this on weekends, on her own time to get acquainted with the parents of each of her students. She purchased these personally and never forced but offered it. Not one parent complained yet the school board at the recommendation of the superintendent of education decided that even on her own time she was an agent of the public school. Therefore it was a violation of the separation of church and state.
This is scary.
What about her rights? I guess they don't exist. The NEA which is the most powerful union in the nation and an organization that is supposed to protect its members is not interested in protecting them if they're Christian. Why? Because the NEA is most interested in secularazion of our schools as is the ACLU.
This has been happening slowly and for a long time. The 10 commandments and religious history have been taken out of our textbooks and classrooms but that's not all. Over a period of time so too have our religious symbols and remembrances been taken out. Christmas and Easter classics have been removed, some of the greatest anthems and hymns we used to sing are no longer permitted. Christmas is gone. Easter is gone.
This removal of religion in our history really shows the intellectual dishonesty of secular huanist educators and reveals their blind hostiity to Christianity.
I mean how can you teach history and not mention the powerful influence of the Puritns, the Calvinists and the revivals of the 18th century that produced the Great Awakening on the founding of this nation?
The secularists have done exactly that. They have systematically removed religous history from our textbooks and for their own good purposes. So how has this helped us?
The secular humanists have expelled trational moral values that were such an important part of our school curriculum for the first 150 years of our history and for what? They have gained virtual control of education in this country for about the last 50 years and what do we see?
We see academics declining. We see moral levels radcally deteriorated. We see moral absolutes done away with being replaced with situational ethics and moral relativism. All this helps to create an atmosphere of permissiveness and I can't see us turning back.
If you wish to find Christian views of our Founding Fathers you must go back to books written more than 50 years ago. Dr. Cleon Skousen, a research scholar pointed out that his investigations showed no derogatory accounts of our national heroes prior to 1913 so where did today's scholars get their information? Faction? Fiction that is written to resemble facts?
Is it not true that the left-wing scholars tend to lionize and exalt the statements of those in history who agree with them and ignore those who hold a view that opposes their own? That is why they choose to quote Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, Ben Frankling and James Madison. But even then they use selective statements. Statements of a religious or conservative tone by other founding fathers are virtually ignored.
For instance, have you ever heard anything about Patrick Henry except his "Give me Liberty or give me death" speech? Do you know why? Henry vehemently opposed almost everything Jefferson stood for especially after he returned from France with his Enlightenment ideas. Instead the liberals like to paint Henry as unpopular and out of step with his countrymen. But even Jefferson acknolwedged Henry's brilliance at oratory and said it had never been surpassed. How many know that Patrick Henry was the only govenor in American History to be eleted and reelected five times? I'd say he was pretty popular..but not to the leftists who love Jefferson and ignore Henry.
You won't find this in any history book but Henry's origin to his great oratory skills was learned by his mother in that she would take him to listen to the Rev Sam Davies, considered the greatest pulpiteer in colonial history. Young Patrick was assigned the task of taking notes of Davies' sermons and repeat them to his mother on the buggy ride back to his home.
But the facts don't really fit with the contemporary historians' views of history and would rather delete Christian leaders like Henry from our schoolbooks.
