The Original is much Better

Jesus said when you know the truth the truth will set you free.  He also said that he was the truth and the way and that there was no other way.  Of course that's not what the media has been telling us especially of late.

I believe him.  So I follow him.   I pay attention to his words and I try my best to act and behave in a manner worthy of Him.   I'm not perfect and I mess up on a pretty regular basis but as I get older it gets a bit easier to do what he wishes me to do.  I've come to learn an awful lot over the years and hopefully I don't repeat too many offenses.  But even still, there are so many temptations out there it's easy to find new ones to play with on a daily basis.

From time to time, others have tried to get me to read their truth, and from time to time I have.  But it's hard because, quite honestly, within a few moments I can hear the untruth and I don't wish to continue.

When the United State Government teaches Treasury Agents how to detect a counterfeit bill they don't have them study fakes.  They have them memorize the patterns of the real currency.

When they have this pattern memorized a fake is put in front of their eyes and they can spot it immediately because it doesn't fit the pattern their eyes are looking for.

So I ask, do you know the voice of truth?  Do you know the voice of Jesus?  The only way you can recognize his voice is to hear it so often you instantly recognize the voice of a stranger.

It makes much more sense to me to spend time with the one true voice than to try and distinguish between a mutitude of false voices clamoring for my attention.

I can testify that the truth has set me free.

As a friend of mine once said: the church gets a lot of credit for what age does. Oooh, how true! I know I am a VASTLY better person now in my late forties than when I was in my early twenties! I'd like to take credit for that, as would the church, but really just getting older deserves most of the kudos there.

Older and wiser Roy?

Yes, as we get older we do get wiser...hopefully.

I think it's both coming to our senses and listening to what the church teaches us.  When I go to church, or read my bible, I am reminded of where I should be so after years and years there is a cumulative effect going on.

The bible is my plumb line.  When I get out of sorts, it yanks me back in line.  When I get out of sync whether it's something I read on my own to remind me how far off base I am or whether I hear a church brother, sister or Pastor give me a word on Sunday morning I can recognize it's God drawing me back and it reminds me of whom I belong to.

So I give credit to both the church who is there to edify and encourage me and myself for coming to my senses but recognizing it's not really myself but Christ in me who helps me do the right thing.  Otherwise I'm sure I'd always be doing the wrong thing most of the time.
