Here's a quote I thought would be nice to think about.  I think it's even more applicable for today than when he first spoke these words.

General Omar Bradley said this about our generation, “We know more about war than about peace. We know more about killing than about living. This is our 20th Century’s claim to progress — knowledge of science outstrips capacity for control. We have too many men of science, too few men of God. The world has achieved brilliance without wisdom, power without conscience. We are a world of nuclear giants and ethical infants.”

You right, human history and current events is littered with examples of scientists going 'he disagrees with my modeling of protein x - We must invade and re-educate the heathen'

Basmas,

Excellent reply!

This new notion of equating modern instances of age-old problems with humanity's increased resourcefulness due to scientific discovery strikes me as a knee-jerk response by those who try to preserve the old ways.

Look at the quote. There is no connection between the first part ("...about living") and the second ("This is our..."). But by saying them in order, the quote tries to make a connection without the need for evidence.

What we have is the ability to confiscate all our years of God-given toys and go back to the sandbox.
