Start Storing The Seeds
Published on March 24, 2008 By KFC Kickin For Christ In Current Events

Have you heard about the Doomsday Vault?  I read about it in the paper a week or so ago.   It's basically a seed bank or vault built to last 10,000 years and is situated near the North Pole.  It's the coldest place they could find and they call it officially the  Svalbard Global Seed Vault.

This vault is located in a place ( I'm not kidding) called Longyearbyen. It's part of a series of Islands with a temperature of 30 below zero.  It's due North of Europe and has a population of about 2,000 people.  This place is overseen by Norway and it's very artic there to say the least.  They say there are more Polar Bears and Reindeer in this place than anything else.  In the winter the sun never rises.    And I thought the long Maine winters were bad.

This seed ark cost 9 million dollars to build.  Norway supplied the funds.   Bill Gates paid for the shipping. Individual countries from all over the globe are supplying the seeds from their crops.

Scientists are collecting over a billion seeds from all over the world to keep deep inside this vault in case of a major world wide catastrophe or some sort of crop extinction.   These seeds, stored in boxes, are flown in by plane.  There is an airstrip at the base of the mountain where this vault is situated.  The Scientists are saying they are housing seeds that took 10,000 years to develop and they don't want to lose any more than already lost as a result of extinction.  Really?  10,000 years?

From the outside this vault or seed ark looks just like a big concrete wedge slammed into a mountainside.  Inside there are pipes that give additional refrigeration.  It is so cold in this vault that even if the earth warms and we lose all power, the vault is supposed to stay frozen for another 25 years past that.

So the question is, will this someday serve to save the world?

And that is why my views on God are much more different than those like of KFC, which makes me wonder if he name was in a sense meant as hinting to be funny.

\

I see "He" not she in your statement.

Years on the net teaches fluency in typoese.  Charles said "wonder if he name was" indicating that the place the word "he" occupied was a place for a possessive pronoun.  "she" is not a possessive pronoun, so that must not be the typo.  That would make the clause read "wonder if she name was."  Nope, not that.

Invoking knowledge of typoese, we see that the likely pronoun is not "his."  A typo in "his" would be 'hes', maybe, or "hi.'  This typo was, in fact, supposed to be the word "her" but inadvertantly the 'r' got left off.  Now the phrase reads "wonder if her name was."  Very simple mystery that only requires minimal deductive capability solved.

My first thought was to ask....what are you an English teacher?  You do seem to be a lover of words Ock.

But this wasn't the only instance I was referring to as far as he calling me a he.  It was only the latest and on this particular blog.  So I just went with the "he" printed.  But I guess somewhere along the way he's figured out that the he is really a she as he said here.

Straight on that?

but yes, thanks for the lesson.

and SP sorry I did delete you for bad language.  If you'd like to repharase that in a less vulgar way...go for it.

KFC, I'm starting to question the whole "God will provide" thing when children are being hurt in religious environments.

You know Charles, I don't mean to set you off or anything....really.  But you have a huge chip on your shoulder.  You're fighting with anyone that gets anywhere near you.  Trying to pit LW against me or me against her is nothing but trouble making and you've done that quite a few times now.   I'm sorry for that.  If you want an honest conversation, please be respectful.  I love to debate, in a friendly sort of way but really don't want to exchange barbs just for the sake of doing so.

Children are being hurt because there is sin in the world.  People are being hurt because there is sin in the world.  Don't blame God. Why does He always get the bad rap?  This is not a surprise.  Christ said we would have tribulation in the world.  Such is the nature of the world.  But even in the midst of trials and tribulations many blessings and testimonies have flowed.   God is with us in our darkest moments.  He whispers to us in our joy but he shouts to us in our pain.  God is there for those who are looking for him.

When you find yourself in the worst moments of your life, God's word steps out of the page and comes alive.

Here's my idea of what I believe reaching God and his Eternity is like. I see it as a job, I was hired (born) to do a job, my goal is to make it to the highest position possible (Heaven). Thru out the years I do the best I can do to earn my positions in life and when the time comes my Boss (God) will decided if I have earned my way to the top or I failed miserable and get fired (sent to hell).

You say you detest religion but this is evidence of your Catholic upbringing.  I was Catholic so I know.  It's works based.  What kind of a God is going to leave you hanging there with no thought of if you've done good enough until the end?  Why would you want to serve a God like that?  Leave you with no instructions....just hope your good outweighs your bad?

That's not what Christ taught.  He taught it eternity is like treasure.  You will do all you can do, go to all the extremes to possess this treasure, even selling all your worldly goods in order to obtain it.  He said "where your heart is there your treasure is also."  Our "job" here on earth is to "find" God and have a relationship with him on this side of eternity.  Only then will he let you in to his home in heaven?  Otherwise he will say to you, those who have been busy trying to work their own way in...... "I do not know you."

Oh and the mansions thing......?  You will find my refrence to that in John 14:2.."In my Father's house are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you.  I go to prepare a place for you."

Thank Ock, even I missed that one. LOL.

KFC

Believe me when I say I had no intentions of getting you and LW into a virtual fight. As much as LW's replies entertain me, it's not something I want between you too. I may not agree with you, but I don't see your articles and replies as the way LW does. When it comes to religion, we'll agree to disagree and as I said in the end we both look for the same results. When it comes to you and LW, it kinda bugs me when you say something to me that kinda sounds like you defending her while at the same time not saying anything to her all while she dislikes you and your articles in an incredible way.

Ok, got it.  You were making comments like "no wonder LW doesn't like you" adding fuel to the fire.....then you would go off and fight with her trying to pit the two of us or lumping the two of us together.   Now you're saying you don't see my articles and replies the same as LW....so I'm a bit confused......that's why I suggested the cold shower......LOL.

I mean, if that's the worst thing I ever say to you......you're golden!

As far as religion, please know for me it's not about religion at all.  It's about having a relationship with Jesus here and now.  Only when you know him here will you be able to spend eternity with him there.

Heh, I actually don't remember what I said. Oh well, sure it wasn't much important. And again, no worries, I'll remember not to cuss on your blog.

Vergin said an autopsy determined the girl died from diabetic ketoacidosis, an ailment that left her with too little insulin in her body, and she had probably been ill for about 30 days, suffering symptoms like nausea, vomiting, excessive thirst, loss of appetite and weakness.

"probably" being the operative word here.

Why don't we let the courts do their jobs and not try this family in the press or mock them?

I'm not too sure you should be having any opinions about a child suffering considering whats been going on in you life.

Charles,

This is a good example of what I'm talking about, actually. You don't know much at all. You've bought into every rumour as fact and tried me without knowing the details.

So, wait, what about us?

Why save seeds of plants but no people?
