It's A Pass or Fail Test

Now, before you roll your eyes.....KFC and another religious article, keep in mind I haven't blogged on religion since like mid February.......

HC sends me devos everyday from Henry Blackaby and once in a while I share them with friends and family.  Many times Blackaby gives me pause to meditate on his words and the scripture he shares and I asked myself, "how am I measuring up to what he's showing me here?  Where am I?"   Anyhow today's was about God testing us to reveal our hearts and I thought it was very good.  From time to time I do think I'm being tested and not always sure if I passed or not.   Sometimes I feel like I have and other times, I'm not so sure.  There are times when I don't even realize I'm being tested until after I come out of it.  But whenever I come thru what I believe is a test, I do find myself stronger as a result of it.

I'm reminded of that saying that says the same Sun that melts wax  also hardens clay.

"And you shall remember that the LORD your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. "So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD. (Deuteronomy 8:2-3)

God allows us to suffer difficulties and hardships for a purpose. God led the children of Israel to wander through the wilderness for forty years in order to humble them and test them. When they refused to obey Him and enter the Promised Land, the Israelites revealed that they did not really know Him. If they had, they would have had more faith. God spent the next forty years testing the hearts of His people to see if they were prepared for His next assignment.

Testing reveals what is in your heart and produces a robust faith (James 1:3, 12). God allowed His people to hunger so they could experience His provision and develop a deeper level of trust in Him. As the people walked with God they came to understand that their lives depended upon His Word. They learned that God’s Word was the most important thing they had. After depending on God for forty years while living in the desert, the people listened when God spoke, and they believed. When they finally entered the Promised Land and waged war against their enemies, the Israelites knew that God’s word meant life and death. They were prepared to listen to Him, and as a result He led them to an astounding victory.

Is God presently testing you in some area of your life? What has His testing revealed? Have you become bitter toward God because of where He has led you? Or have you come to trust Him more as a result of what you have gone through?

Do you really think a theology that paints God as a vindictive monster will attract unbelievers? Trials come into our lives because we live on the fallen side of heaven. Not because God loves to torture his children. The whole, "It's making me stronger" line very well may be true, but I certainly wouldn't make it the new slogan for Christianity.

So you think his testing paints him as vindictive?

Unbelievers will not come to God, until God first moves in their hearts so this has nothing to do with attacting them.  It would be more about teaching them that these times do come in the lives of the believer.

The testing is not for him.  He knows beforehand how we will react.  It's for us.  It's to show us what we're made of.  Without testing in our lives we really don't know how strong we are.  It has nothing to do with torture at all.  I don't see it that way.  Scripture doesn't teach it that way.

He may bring us into circumstances of special testing, not for the purpose of supplying information for himself, but in order to manifest to us the dispositions of our own hearts.

A test is intended to strengthen us and to build us up.  God never tests the unbelievers.  He only tests his own people.

Who says anything about making this a new slogan anyhow?   It's just a truth of scripture and something to think about.  That's it.
