And a Treasure

Bargains and Treasures!  Treasures and Bargains.  Boy do I like it!   When I find a good bargain, I get kind of tingly inside.....hahaha not really but it does put an extra spring in my step.

We have this store called Bargains and Treasures here and I'm hooked.  It's a consignment shop where they sell mostly furniture but also some little household things like dishes, glassware, artificial trees and flowers and artwork.   On one of my first trips I bought a set of eight handpainted water goblets for $20.  With Red Cardinals and a nice winter scene painted on each glass it reminded me of home.  Today I saw a whole huge set of Pzalfgraff dishes for only $35 and it looked next to brand new.  It had all the extras to go with the place settings.  What a deal.

Today I got an Entertainment Center finally!  I'd been looking for many things and this was on the A list.

What you  have to do to secure a great find of this magnatude is to keep going and walking thru the three rooms jammed full of their latest.  Sometimes I go in and see the same things that have been there for weeks.  I quickly walk past those items looking for that fresh new piece, something that may look terrific in my house.  Time can be of the essence as you see others milling around doing exactly what you're doing.  This place is always busy with at leat 20 or so others on any given time I've been there.   The last three times I visited I walked out with no success.  Some interesting things but nothing that spoke "this is it."

When you see what you want, you go to the desk with the price tag in your hand.  They switch it for a hold ticket and you go back to tape it on.  Then you have only 24 hours to come back to pick it up if you don't take it right then and there.  Usually this gives one time to go home and measure to make sure it'll fit the space we have in mind. Sometimes someone is actually right behind you looking as well.  That happened with my lanai set I got there.  After I put a hold on it I found out there was a second hold after me.  Not only that but the next day when I went to pick it up I found another couple eyeing this not knowing I just paid for it.  They were discussing how it would look on their lanai.  Ha!  It's mine!  Of couse I said in a nice way, "I'm sorry but I just purchased this."  I really wasn't sorry so why did I say I was?

Well today I saw this Oak Entertainment Center over 9 feet long.  I'd been pricing these units all over and they go upwards to 4,000 dollars.  The cheapest I'd found new somewhere was 1200 and was not the finish I wanted, nor was it Oak.  This Oak Center was listed for $450.  What a deal.   So while standing there with the price tag in my hand, I stood by to look at it.  While I did that for at least 10 minutes or so trying to make sure this was what I wanted another lady came over and started opening up the drawers and checking it all out.  That did it.  That was the kick in the pants I needed.

I marched up to the desk, got my hold ticket and put it front and center on that unit and went out to call the hubby.   He liked the price and we decided we'd pick it up after work.  He told me to go home and get rope and a few blankets before I picked him up.  So that's what I did.  With roof racks on top of my Subaru we've put stuff in there before that even trucks would be envious of.  But I was a bit worried this time around.  This is one big unit.  Actually it was three pieces but very large heavy pieces.

We got back to the store just before it closed and realized this thing was soooooo heavy there was no way I could help him lift that up on top of the car. There was nobody there at closing time to help us either.  I'm pretty rugged, but he was right.  I could hardly move it while it was standing there.  So we opted to have it delivered next week instead.   So now I have to wait until Wednesday to fill this very empty large wall.

And my husband?  He said "you did good."  He really liked it alot.

That's my bargain story and I'm stickin to it.   Now, that's finished, I can move on to the Living Room Set.
