It Just Goes On and On and On

I saw this news clip today and couldn't believe how small this seemed. I mean, com'on doesn't anyone remember the story of how the Aids virus first tainted the blood supply back in the what...... 70's? Do we want to go thru that again? Do we let our blood supply diminish for fear of making a homosexual feel bad? What about the heteros who wish to donate from the confines of their university? Are they chopped liver? How far is this going to go? Lives could be at stake.

San Jose State University has banned blood drives from campus because homosexuals are not allowed to donate.

The Food and Drug Administration last reviewed its ban on homosexual donors in March 2006 and feels the policy is still appropriate.

“We’re not arguing anything about the science," said Larry Carr, university vice president. "We’re not in a position to argue the science. We have a conflict with a nondiscrimination policy on our campus.”

Dr. Jim Small of the Christian Medical Association said San Jose State is letting its zeal for gay rights cloud its judgment.

“I think that despite their denial of this, that they are clearly making a political statement," he said.

San Jose State students and faculty donate about 300 units of blood a year, and, according to Michele Hyndman of the Stanford Blood Center, any further losses could put local patients in jeopardy.

“Our fear would be that other organizations would ban blood drives following San Jose State’s lead," she said. "That would be devastating to the blood supply.”

That's just idiotic in the first place. In fact, there are mulitiple tiers of stupidity in this whole layout.

I'm very close to giving up on the human race...it's like every day there's more stupid crap to read about. I suppose I should quit being surprised...

By the way, I think Dr. Guy had an article about this as well.

No problem.  They should merely ban any blood products from going to San Jose State University.  They are free to refuse to give, and those who decide where blood products go have the same freedoms.

No blood products to their labs, clinics, univserity hospital (if there is one).  No blood products for students, faculty or administration.

If they don't want to participate in the national blood bank program, let them start their own little blood bank.

What I am saying is that banning the receipt of all blood products by the university is not applicable to the issue of blood donation and collection.

Right!  2 wrongs do not make a right.  SJSU is being stupid and idiotic about it.  That does not mean the blood banks need to respond in kind with equal stupidity.

Besides, the basic premise of SJSU is flawed.  The blood banks are not discriminating!  If anyone is, it is the FDA.  Why starve the poor because you dont like the welfare laws?

Asaxygirl:  Yeah, the ban would only apply to blood from the blood banks that are supplied by the kind of donations San Jose University refuse to participate in.  It isn't reprisal as much as honoring their wishes not to participate.  Commercially supplied blood products shouldn't be effected.

Well, just another case of peoples feeling being more important than peoples lives. What really puzzles me is that, while they may be angry that they can't donate blood, homosexuals think it's OK to discontinue blood donations in the school that could save lives. I mean, is their mentality "well if I can't donate then no one deserves any blood"? It's sad when peoples feeling are more important than peoples lives.

Very well put!
