Personally, fruit is always something I like.

My father-in-law gets a big box of oranges every Christmas from his brother in Orlando.  There's no way he can use them all before they spoil, so he shares the wealth with the rest of the family.  He really enjoys them because when he was a kid they rarely ate fresh fruit in the winter...which is exactly why his brother sends them.

I read most fruit bought in the store in the "off" season is covered in pesticides that are illegal to use in the US, as a lot of it comes from other countries.  Unless you buy organic....

So oranges are a nice gift....you may find people start looking forward to their oranges every year.

That's how I feel as well. My husband is not a fruit eater and he says it's not a good gift from his perspective and two of the receipiants are going to be men so that's why I asked. Amanda's Dad is plowing for us and another guy is watching our home so I thought maybe this would be nice. Siomething different as neither have friends down here that I'm aware of.

I live away from most my family too. I've found that things that you can only get where I've lived usually make pretty good presents.

Nothing wrong with fruit in the mail. Used to be a staple gift around here, I forget who gave it to us but it was always really good. But sometimes you get too much, and it goes bad. So give a reasonable amount of fruit - if they don't like it, they can throw a fruit-tasting party and get rid of it.

"Ugh, this is terrible... I should have all my friends eat it instead!"

Friends:

"Ugh, this is terrible!"

"Yeah, I know!"

"So why are you having us taste test it???"

hahahah and the way they're drinking around here, they are pretty aged I'd say or should I just say fermented!! !

We went down to the square tonight to go to the Orange Place again. We then walked around the square after buying some very yummy tangerines checking out the vendors that come out on Tuesdays. Everyone was walking around either with ice creams or one of those "aged" drinks. .

I bought an orange hat (for running) for $3.20 and hubby bought a cell phone holder for $5.00. Both alot cheaper than the stores.

It's a wonderful night in the Villages.

Hats made out of oranges? Now that's definitely got to be a Florida thing.
