Moving on in more ways than one

A few updates on the latest in my life lately to tie up some earlier threads right here on good ol' JU.

First and I'm thrilled to report this:

Amanda called today to tell me that Ethan is sleeping a whopping 13 hours a night now ever since she got home. She puts him down at about 7 pm and he's sleeping all the way till 8 am. He's a much happier baby she said. Yes, the little experiement worked for all the nay sayers out there!!! When he went home, the first night he slept his first full night ever. It's the first time in 11 months she's had this happen and is thrilled beyond belief. Even Brian said, "that's it?" She put him down and let him cry for a minute or two and then he settled right down and went to sleep. Because of this, she can now skip his morning nap and just keep the afternoon nap routine and all is well. She's feeling the difference as well, much more energetic now.

M, my runner I wrote about came up to me yesterday and apologized for her attitude and telling me to "chill." I told her we say and do certain things because we care about her and the other runners. It's only out of care and concern we're watching out for her and her teammates. Besides we're only doing our job by following the rules to make sure our athletes get home safely after an away meet. When Coach Bill spoke to her first the day before I did, he said she still was a bit defiant, but I found her to be fine the next day.

I have had one two-day yard sale and will do another this weekend. I made $1500 this last weekend which is enough for the rental truck. We had a steady influx of visitors even tho we live off the beaten path thanks to my husband's great signs he made for the end of the road which is 1.4 miles away. I was told many times during the course of last weekend that I was very organized in how I did this yardsale. All I did was put colored sticker dots on everything. Dark blue means twenty five cents. Light blue means fifty cents, red is for one dollar, green for two dollars, etc. I used white stickers for anything over $3 and put the price on it. So it was pretty easy. Then I made up a couple of charts and put them around the garage for the people to see the colored dot system. It worked really well.

I still have a garage full of stuff which I hope will go this weekend. It's funny only a couple of guys talked me down on stuff. The ladies didn't. I would have thought the opposite myself. We have had three couples look at the house. Two really like it and I think both are coming back this weekend for a re-look. The first couple I don't think were serious anyway. They were doing a house blitz looking at a whole slew in one afternoon. They were very young with a two month old in tow, and I was wondering how they would be able to afford this house.

I signed up for another cruise. Actually it's the same cruise with the same entertainers. Hopefully they have new material. I've been saving my pennies since the last cruise because I had such a blast.. We leave in January only this time we don't have to fly down to Florida. We only need to drive three hours to get the boat. Piece of cake compared to last year. We are even staying in the same room or is it cabin? Anyhow I like sleeping in the middle of the ship. Less rocking that way. I liked that I never got sick although I did get dizzy when I was on one end or the other at times.

David and Aly are getting married in May. They will get married the same weekend as Brian and Amanda did. They have decided to try and find jobs in Florida to be near us. Her parents have also decided to retire there in a few years so the kids thought it would be nice to be near family. So at least we'll have one there nearby I hope. Florida is a big state. Hopefully they are not too far away.

Quincy Dog is going to the neighbors when we move. We thought about what to do with him and came to the conclusion it was in his best interest to leave him in Maine. He has freedom here which he wouldn't have where we're going. His life would be drastically different. Besides, they have alot more thunder storms down there than here. He would hate Florida. He's too much of a Northerner and he's too old to make him adapt. Before I could even ask my neighbor if she'd be interested in taking Quincy she asked "can we have him?" They love him as much as we do. Her two boys are thrilled. Everyone's happy but I'll be missing him for sure. My mom even offered to take him. He's so personable and well trained he's a joy to have around. He does have his quirks but for the most part he's settled down and has become a very good dog. I'm thinking he's feeling something is up right now. We're making alot of house changes and he's sensing it.

So we're moving on in more ways than one. In five weeks we'll be literally moving away from here. Just in the nick of time. We just got a notice that our medical insurance is once again hitting what we thought was the ceiling last year, but realize now, the sky's the limit. It's maddening. We also got a cancellation notice from our car insurance because of a bizarre happening that makes absolutely no sense and is going to take work to unravel. Gah! We're anxious now to get out of what is fast becoming a welfare state here in Maine, and we're helping to foot the bill. More on that later.

Onward and upward.

I never said it wouldn't work. I basically said "at what cost?".

If they are all happy with it, then more power to them.

The colored stickers for the garage sale is a neat idea. I may use that one when we have ours.

Moving is stressful.  Am I correct in understanding you are moving yourselves?  Or are you hiring a company?

One big thing which makes it stressful is not having a place to live when you arrive.  But, you have that nipped in the bud, so the transition should be easier.

Glad Ethan is getting some sleep.

WHAT?  No more running in the rain, cold, and slush for David?  The world will never be the same.

Well there isn't any cost only dividends. Baby is happy and restful. Mom is happy and restful.

Yes, it's a great way to do a yard sale...and I'm no expert but it was alot easier to just run around and zap stickers on things. On large amounts of stuff like canning jars, I just posted a sign "all canning jars twenty five cents." I had a gazillion jars forgetting I used to do ALOT of canning way back when.

We are doing it ourselves. Cheaper that way. We are selling alot of stuff. Alot of my furniture needed updating so I figured I'd get new down there. I've been waiting for a long time for a new BR set. I've had this same set since I was 18 and it was time for a new set. My LR set was about 12 years old with end tables about 28 years old so it wasn't worth moving. So we figured we'd rent a 22 foot truck and drive it ourselves.

We were told not to rent a U-Haul because they are always breaking down. Evidently they are not good at servicing their trucks very well. So we're going to go thru another company. Too long a trip to take a chance.

Glad Ethan is getting some sleep.

I'm sure Amanda would love you to visit her Tova. She's not apt to call you so you should call her and get together with your youngest soon!! Ethan would love to play with your little boy.

David's pretty well known up here. He's in the local papers alot. The next town wrote an article in the paper after he won their local town race saying they would like to make David an honorary citizen of their town. He's pretty recognizable around town, almost like a little small town celebrity. He's planning on coming back next summer to defend his running titles around this area.

But one thing's for certain, David is a beach baby not a snow baby....lol.
