What Exactly Makes Her a Leader?
Published on July 5, 2007 By KFC Kickin For Christ In Politics
Many are buzzing about Hillary and have been for quite some time. She's the darling of the Dems and could easily be their best shot for the next election.

I hear alot of support for her from those on the left but I'm puzzled. I mean I am actually really wondering what has she done in the six years or so that's she's been a NY Senator? Is she like Paris Hilton, famous for being famous or is she legit? Does she have something that makes her honestly stand out from the others besides being married to Bill?

For any out there who are actually thinking of voting for her, can you enlighten me here? What exactly has she done that would drive you to vote for her?

I'm not out to bash her, although I admit, she's not my cup of tea. I'm just curious as to what would draw one to vote for her.

The following is from her website:

In 2000, Hillary was elected to the United States Senate from New York. As Senator, Hillary has continued her advocacy for children and families and has been a national leader on homeland security and national security issues.

After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Hillary worked with her colleagues to secure the funds New York needed to recover and rebuild. She fought to provide compensation to the families of the victims, grants for hard-hit small businesses, and health care for front line workers at Ground Zero. And she continues to work for resources that enable New York to grow, to improve homeland security for New York and other communities, and to protect all Americans from future attacks.

She is the first New Yorker ever to serve on the Senate Armed Services Committee, working to see that America's military has the necessary resources to protect our national security. She has visited troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and at Fort Drum in New York, home of the 10th Mountain Division and other New York bases, as well as at Walter Reed Military Hospital. She has learned first-hand the challenges facing American combat forces. Hillary passed legislation to track the health status of our troops so that conditions like Gulf War Syndrome would no longer be misdiagnosed. She is an original sponsor of legislation that expanded health benefits to members of the National Guard and Reserves and has been a strong critic of the Administration's handling of Iraq.

But Hillary has recognized that we can't ignore our problems at home while we face challenges overseas. She has introduced legislation to tie Congressional salary increases to an increase in the minimum wage, because she believes if America's working people don't deserve a raise, neither does Congress. She has supported a variety of middle-class tax cuts, including marriage penalty relief, property tax relief, and reduction in the Alternative Minimum Tax, and supports fiscally responsible pay-as-you-go budget rules. She helped pass legislation that encouraged investment to create jobs in struggling communities through the Renewal Communities program. She has championed legislation to bring broadband Internet access, which is so important in today's information economy, to rural America.

In the Senate, Hillary has not wavered in her work to expand quality affordable health care to more Americans. She worked to strengthen the Children's Health Insurance Program, which increased coverage for children in low income and working families. She authored legislation that has been enacted to improve quality and lower the cost of prescription drugs and to protect our food supply from bioterrorism. She sponsored legislation to increase America's commitment to fighting the global HIV/AIDS crisis, and is now leading the fight for expanded use of information technology in the health care system to decrease administrative costs, lower premiums, and reduce medical errors.

Her strong advocacy for children continues in the Senate. Some of Hillary's proudest achievements have been her work to ensure the safety of prescription drugs for children, with legislation now included in the Best Pharmaceuticals for Children Act, and her legislation to help schools address environmental hazards. She has also proposed expanding access to child care. She has passed legislation that will bring more qualified teachers into classrooms and more outstanding principals to lead our schools.

Hillary has been a powerful advocate for women in the Senate. Her commitment to supporting the rights guaranteed in Roe v. Wade and to reducing the number of abortions by reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies was hailed by the New York Times as "frank talk...(and) a promising path." Hillary is one of the original cosponsors of the Prevention First Act to increase access to family planning. Her fight with the Bush Administration ensured that Plan B, an emergency contraceptive, will be available to millions of American women and will reduce the need for abortions.

Hillary is strongly committed to making sure that every American has the right to vote in fair, accessible, and credible elections. She introduced the Count Every Vote Act of 2005 to ensure better protection of votes and to ensure that every vote is counted.

In 2006, New Yorkers reelected Hillary to the Senate with 67 percent of the vote.

Sodaiho makes many valid points, While I am still looking at all the candidates in equal light, I did go see Hilary speak on Monday night 7/2/2007, just to hear her speak, as I have all of the candidates,
that have made their way to my city, while I agreed with a lot of her positions, I still feel I will need more information, not only from Hilary, but from all of the candidates making a run for it with this next election. During our local 4th of July parade we had four candidates that actually marched in the parade, of the four I had only heard of one, Mitt Romney, this tells me i need to continue to do research, and make sure I am fully aware of all of the candidates, before election time, I have a lot of work ahead of me, but I feel it is my duty as a responsible citizen to be well informed in my decision making.

Is she like Paris Hilton

I think that says it in a nut shell.  She has no accomplishments to speak of.  Her entire claim to fame is being the wife of Bill.  And when she has tried to do something, she has been very ham handed in it, alienating not only the opposition, but her allies as well.

As you say, she may very well be out next president.  And if she is, she will have one claim to fame.  She will settle once and for all the debate of who is the worst president.

Sodaiho,

Thanks for the info but I could have done that. What I was looking for was for people that support her like you the Knows without a doubt why they are possibly considering her as our next President.

From what I can see from the general public, nobody really knows what she's done while in office as Senator. I'm talking the ones that are seriously going to vote for her. They are speechless when asked what she's done. Of course going to her site they are going to put her in the best possible light. As far as the military? They hate her. I know that for a fact. The military got hit hard under the tenure of her husband and they expect the same with her I guess.

Is this from both parties or just the Dems?

She will settle once and for all the debate of who is the worst president.

well it certainly will be interesting that's for sure.

I love blanket pronouncements like this when she's not even the official candidate.

Could she possibly be worse than Taft? or Bush Jr.? I doubt.

Yup, she'll finally put the nails in old Dubya's coffin and everyone will remember the travesty of the last six years.

Hello KFC,

Of course you could have gone to her site. My sense is that is what people should do when reviewing a candidate. People in the military hate Bush as well. This is no point one way or another in my view. Hillary has an enormous amount of experience, is smart, and quite savy. She has a passion for the care of children and for health care...two areas of special interest to me. She is pro-choice. I believe she is a centrist. I think the people of New York like her alot and it appears she has done well by them.

Please don't assume though that I support her. My vote is still undecided. I like Edwards. I see him as smart, aggressive in the political arena, and an advocate for social justice.

I have looked some at the Republican slate thus far and there is no one there that attracts my eye. I thought McCain was a possibility, but have changed my mind altogether with his hawkishness. I am not a fan of big business so the GOP is not very attractive to me. This last six years with a Rebulican dominated government has been dismal: debt through the roof, spending out of control, we seem an inch away from an Orwellian novel.

Lets see how things unfold.

Be well, KFC, and thank you for the question.

Gee we go from one family to the other with barely discernible differences in policies.

What a crock.

famous last words.

But to address your "blanket" pronouncement accusation, I do not base this on a hatred or aversion to her.  I base this on her history of ham handed dealings - again not with opponents - but with allies.  Carter was not the worst president because he was an evil bad man.  he was the worst president because he thought he knew it all - and could not form a consensuses or knew how to delegate.  It is not surprising that the Iranians held the Americans until his term was over.  They knew that as long as they held them, Carter would be frozen worrying about them instead of leading the nation.

Hillary is like that, except she does not have Carter's charm, or his idealistic vision.

Immigration 'Reform' anyone?

Too late - she is already a resident.
