Here She Is......What is She Really Doing?

We're having this heated, sort of, discussion here about beauty pageants. It started when my son David was asked to escort Miss NH in a parade. He had to be fitted for a tux and everything. He looks really good in a tux...btw....lol.

Anyhow, it came up that these pageants are nothing but girls putting their bodies on display, the result being men lusting after their bodies. In short, not much different than playboy. How is this different than say the swimsuit issue from Sports Illustrated?

I could easily take that position I suppose, but I chose to take the side that for the most part it's women who watch Miss America not men. That it's beauty, poise and talent that's the issue, not sex. Unlike Playboy, Miss America has a cause she devotes her time and effort to, not displaying her body parts for the sole purpose of making a buck using her body. In fact, there have been some girls who had to relinquish their crowns for posing in suggestive pictures or engaging in unsavory behaviors. I'm pretty certain she's going to have on "decent" clothes riding in this upcoming parade.

So, the question I submit here is do you think more women or men watch beauty pageants such as Miss America? In your household who is more apt to watch Miss America? Who is the target audience for shows such as this, men or women?

It seems every thread I touch turns to God. I'm liking it.

I was here, but will only say that the pagents for the young girls are wrong!  For the poor children.

I would agree with this. My guess it's more mom than kid.
