Well it seems as though I'm not the only one leery about the World Wide Web. I got an Israeli update today that I thought I'd share with you all.
It seems as though the Jews of the Orthodox persuasion are sending out an alert against the internet. This is pretty interesting to see the Jews get on board along with mostly Conservative Fundamental Christian thought about the net. Although I have yet to see any Christian prohibition against the net at this time. I can't see it happening either, because it's getting to the point where this is where we get the most up to date information. To cut ourselves off means to be in the dark as far as knowing what's going on in the world. I'm not so sure that is a good thing although being a hermit in some remote corner of the world doesn't sound so bad either on my bad days. Give me a cabin, a toilet, and a roomful of books and I'd be happy.
An ultra-Orthodox Jewish sect in Israel is urging its followers to get rid of their home computers, insisting that the machines represent a "spiritual danger" to the community.
Known as the Gerrer Hasidim, the group is especially concerned by home Internet connections that a number of its members have established, reported Ha'aretz.
While the leader of the sect has decided not to ban personal computers and Internet use outright, he has issued a directive for every synagogue affiliated with the movement to send out pairs of well-spoken men to persuade other followers to abandon treacherous devices.
The Gerrer Hasidim have already agreed to not allow televisions in their homes.

How strange of them. Lack of understanding causing fear? Stepping back into dark ages?

I suppose but not exactly calling for a prohibition. They basically have done their best to stay away from all modern conveniences for such a long time. This would be no different. Actually they would probably be in the best position if things get as rough as I believe they will someday. They are already living off the land, not dependent to such things like we are.

I'd be interested in exactly what their reasoning is. I mean, I know and understand the Christian one, but not sure why they are exactly doing this.
I did hear that the Muslims are expecting their Messiah (12th Imman) to come out of a well in a cave. He will bring peace and unite the world. I'm thinking their Messiah may quite possibly be the same as the Jews are expecting. This cave/well thing sounds strangely like Rev 17:8 which states that the AC would come out of the pit.
Therefore we may have similar ideas about this "charismatic" leader to come but we're on opposite sides as to the motive behind this future leader. Maybe it's the same with the computer thing with the Orthodox Jews.

That is not true at all. Main-stream Muslims (i.e the majority of Muslims) believe that The Messiah is Jesus who will come back somehow. The 12th Imam is a Shia idea and even they dont see him as the Messiah.

You may be right about main-stream Muslims, I'm not sure how many believe this. I have no idea. But it's out there. I doubt very much they believe the Messiah is Jesus tho. As far as I know they believe Jesus was a good moral person but not God.
Did you know Ahmadinejad believes the Twelfth Imam will come out of a well at the end of the world?
The Twelfth Imam is also called the Mahdi, His name is Mohammed Ibn Hassad, and he’s a descendant of the Prophet Mohammed.
Supposedly he went into occlusion in the 9th century He went into a cave. Allah kept him alive and now he’s down in the well, waiting to come out. When he does come out at the end times he will be with Jesus.
Have you ever heard of the Twelvers?
The ‘Twelvers,’ are people who believe the Twelfth Imam is coming. Twelvers think they can bring him out by making the chaos. Ahmadinejad is a ‘Twelver’ and so are some others in his government.”
The Madhi will calm everything down after the chaos,”He’ll bring a thousand years of justice and peace.
So if Ahmadinjad believes this 12th Imam is coming when there is chaos on the earth, what do you suppose he's going to create in order to bring this Messiah to earth?
