My son called me a few nights ago. Aly's favorite Golden Retriever back home lay dying. This dog is one of the victims of the latest pet food fiasco. They had given the dog surgery cleaning out the stomach but to no avail. He called me the next morning and said Aly's sister came home to find the dog dead near the door when she got home that morning.
He said Aly was having a really hard time. She talked about this dog all the time, even talking to the dog over the phone while away at college. She's now gone home for Easter. I bet it will sting a bit when she gets home. This dog was only six years old and one of three dogs they had. But this one was Aly's favorite.
At first I thought we had a problem here because we found, twice in a week, a huge puddle that we were attributing to the cat....not the dog. it was a real mystery for us tho, not really sure where this came from, but it was a huge amount. It didn't look like pee but more like clear water. My son, thought maybe there was some kidney failure involved and to watch her closely. It was right before....a day or so.....before the news hit about the pet food. I worried at first because I had bought a new kind of cat food at Walmart. It was dry cat food so when I heard it was only wet that was affected, I breathed a sigh of relief. The strangest thing tho is we haven't had another mystery puddle since. She also threw up that week, a good amount one night. But she now seems fine. I wonder if there wasn't a touch of something in that food tho.
I love my cat. We've had her 17 years. She is the most loveable, talkative cat I've ever seen. She seems almost human sometimes. She's been having trouble jumping up on the couch now that we have laminate flooring in the LR. It's kind of pathetic to watch her try to jump up to her favorite spot. So we go over and help push her butt up for her. She just doesn't have the bounce in her back legs anymore. I will be very hard to see the ol' gal go. I'm hoping she'll be around a couple more years, but how long can she go? She almost died two years ago, and after extensive vet bills, she managed to pull thru. It was worth every penny. My husband didn't think so at first, but now I think he does.
It stinks getting old. Poor Mingo. She used to be a huge hunter. I wonder if she dreams of her good ol' mice catching days? Heh, it's probably safer to eat raw mice than cat food nowadays.
