I'm looking to get out of here, even for just a few days. It's mud season in full swing and it's not pretty around these parts. The grass is peeping from under the snow in spots which is a great thing to see after a long winter. The mud I could do without. In our neck of the woods we have five seasons. Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Mud Season.
This past week we had a few friends come over including the guy who just put in my new laminate flooring. Each one without exception got out of their vehicles and said......'your road." That's all that needs to be said. I have about a mile and a quarter of dirt road which is fairly decent in good weather but horrendous every March/April when the snow melt begins. I feel like I'm gearing up to go into a war zone everytime I get in the car to leave this place. Forget about cleaning my car. Not worth it.
Today I stayed home all day. I do that as much as I can right now only going out when necessary. It's just not worth the grief. Big honking ruts and water filled holes I could swim in just ain't worth the navigating. Friday night I had two teen girls come to visit me. They wanted to come to my home for ice cream sundaes. I warned them, but they didn't listen. When they walked in, after saying the usual......"your road" I noticed one of them looked pretty shook up. She was the driver and she begged me to take her car and drive it down when they left . She was that scared. It doesn't help that it was going to be a pretty good downhill on the way out. I told her the experience would be good for her. Besides, what did she want me to do, walk home in the dark thru the mud at 11"oclock at night? I don't think so. She made it out fine come to find out. I saw her in church two days later.
Last week when I was going downhill I felt at times I was going to end up going down sideways. It can be tricky hanging on swinging from left to right to avoid the worst ruts and holes. I just hope the teens don't find out about this road and decide to go "muddin" which is a favorite pastime around here.
So with that in mind I booked a ticket to VA to see my son for a few days. It won't be until after Easter, but I'm looking forward to an earlier Spring even if it's just for a long weekend. He said they have been having some nice temps and I'm looking forward to running in shorts instead of winter leggings.
But for now, I just hold my breath and hang on dreading the end of the day when I have to return home. This is not a fun place to live during mud season.
