We've hemmed and hawed for weeks finally deciding on which laminate we would choose for our living room and one bedroom. We placed our order and today was the day. Or so we thought.

We were told at the placement of the order that we must be available on the delivery day. We were responsible for unloading the truck ourselves. If we were not home, the driver would not leave the materials but would just leave. We got a call yesterday that they would be here tomorrow which is today but couldn't tell us a time. We just needed to be available and the driver would call us and let us know. So we moved furniture around, making room for the thirty or so bundles and rolls of foam against one wall in the dining room.

Well at 7:30 this morning we got the call. The delivery driver would be at the house before noon. So we hung around and waited. We had asked our friend last night if he'd be around to help and he said he would and to give him a call. Jeff called at 11:15 asking if anything was happening. I said, "not yet, but they should be here any minute." So Jeff drove over and waited with us until 1:00 when he had to go to work. Soooooo by this time, we're agitated. No driver, no wood, no phone call and it was way past "before noon." Grrrrrrrrr

We called the store and they said the driver was unfamiliar with the area and had other deliveries to make before us thus the reason for his lateness. We arranged for another meeting on Friday. A few minutes later the driver called apologetic and said he'd be at least another hour or so. By this time it's way past the original "before noon" time, and we had to get going. So evidently the store didn't let this driver know of our new prearranged time on Friday. It was all right for him, because he's still not sure of the area and was feeling kind of lost in this territory. He was also very behind schedule as it was. He sounded actually relieved. One more home he didn't have to go to and at least four hours of lost work for us. Add that to the cost of the floor.

Does anyone get anything delivered on time? Let's hope Friday is a better day.

Deliveries, repairs, they are the same.  Never there when they say they will be.  I had to wait half a day for one repair person - who never showed.  Then the company wanted to reschedule me for a week later!  I told them forget it, they had better be out the next day.

They finally showed.

thanks for that LW. It was very informative helping me to see the other side.

We usually try and go out of our way to be accomadating to others, but not always receiving the same treatment. Here, I could understand somewhat the driver's dilemma but the hard thing for us was lack of a phone call. If he could have called us by the scheduled time or even before to let us know, he was behind schedule we could have tried to work around it. We work nearby so we could have gone to work and been back (in 20 min) to help unload the truck. Instead we spent 4 hours waiting for a truck that never did come because of scheduling problems. So it's more of a communication problem I think.

I know things don't always go according to best laid out plans but a simple phone call can go a long way in helping releive a whole lot of stress. We were so concerned that we didn't even dare go out for a run fearing he'd show up in the middle of it.

But you'll be glad to hear, we didn't yell, fuss or scream. We just made other arrangements for later in the week and since my husband has that day off, it doesn't really matter if they show up on time or not. He'll be here anyway.
