The story of a man who was laughed at for building a huge boat in the middle of the desert 4,500 years ago continues to be a hot topic among scholars all over the world.

The National Geographic Society's search for a wooden boat expert and visuals of wooden boat consruction is bringing them to Boothbay Harbor (Maine) Shipyard early next week as part of production for a television program tentatively titled "Mysteries of the Bible: Noah's Flood."

For a segment on Noah's ark, National Geographic is hoping to speak with a naval engineer or wooden boat expert who can address the logistics and challenges of wooden boat building, both in a contemporary context and in the theoretical context of the scale described in the bible.

They expressed great interest in filming the construction of the 1607 Jamestown vessel replica Discovery, saying that it might have looked a bit like the ark.

"They are quite interested in hearing from our shipwrights about techniques, which probably have not changed since the time of Noah," saiad Bob Foster, marketing director for Boothbay Harbor Shipyard.
