"Lord, that I may receive my sight." Luke 18:41

What is the thing that not only disturbs you but makes you a disturbance? It is always something you cannot deal with yourself. "They rebuked him that he should hold his peace....but he cried so much the more." Persist in the disturbance until you get face to face with the Lord Himself; do not deify common sense. When Jesus asks us what we want Him to do for us in regard to the incredible thing with which we are faced, remember that He does not work in common-sense ways, but in supernatural ways.

Watch how we limit the Lord by remembering what we have allowed Him to do for us in the past: I always failed there, and I always shall; consequently we do not ask for what we want. "It is ridiculous to ask God to do this." If it is an impossibility, it is the thing we have to ask. If it is not an impossible thing, it is not a real disturbance. God will do the absolutely impossible.

This man received his sight. The most impossible thing to you is that you should be so identified with the Lord that there is nothing of the old life left. He will do it if you ask him. But you have to come to the place where you believe Him to be almighty. Faith is not in what Jesus says, but in Himself; if we only look at what He says, we shall never believe. When once we see Jesus, He does the impossible thing as naturally as breathing.

Our agony comes from the willful stupidity of our own heart. We won't believe, we won't cut the shore line, we prefer to worry on.

I've never experienced God doing the impossible. I suppose some people believe they have. And of course, the argument is that if God does not do for you what you ask, either you did not have sufficient faith or what you asked for was something you did not need.

That's the thing about prayer. God has an easy out.

I found that while I was Christian I felt tremendous pressure and guilt, both from Scriptural demands as well as from fellow Christians (at one point I was here alone, trying to raise my children while my husband was deployed, and not only did the church not ask me what I might need, but I was asked to give, give, give monetarily as well as do things like scrub toilets and put down concrete...while still responsible for watching my children, despite the fact that there were members who did not have those restraints who were not contributing to those projects). I didn't feel peace or that I was not alone. It was a burden.

God didn't lighten my burden. Instead, I was given more burden. It wasn't until I stopped trying, stopped believing, and stopped hoping that God would intercede in my misery that I finally felt some peace.

People can say this I suppose. But I find that most of the time God answers my prayers in not the way I was expecting. It's like our children. They ask for stuff all the time. We say no, yes, and maybe. Sometimes we say yes but not quite the way they were expecting. God does the same thing. When I look back I see that God was giving me something much better than I really asked for. I've learned over time to ask for stuff in "his will" not mine. Like children sometimes we don't know what we really need. We think we do but God sees ahead to where we are going and gives accordingly.

I'm sorry to hear of you rexperiences of feeling overburdened in the church. I wouldn't blame God for this though. I don't think that's fair. Jesus said those that come to him will find peace. He will lift their burdens. Most of the time we put the burdens on ourselves because we just can't say NO when we should. If you were a single parent taking care of kids then God would not have required you to do what you mentioned. But that brings up an interesting question. What does God require of you?

"To do justly, love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God."

That's it. There's no A,B,C, X, Y,Z to get into heaven. You can't work yourself to heaven. Many churches are teaching that and maybe they were working you there? If they were putting such burdens on you...shame on them. We as a body of believers are to reach, teach, serve, and send. Not to put excessive burdens on others but to help lessen them. I bet if you found a healthy well balanced church you would have a totally different outlook. But the question is.....do you really want to?

I'm afraid the peace you are feeling now is not the true peace you are seeking. I think in time you will see this.

Have you read it?

Twice

"The meaning of prayer is that we get hold of God, not of the answer."

"Get into the habit of saying, "Speak, Lord," and life will become a romance."

(two of my favorite OC quotes)

You may petition the Lord with prayer...but don't expect anything.

So why argue the point?
