It's all about Love or is it?

I've read this before and just received it again. It's worth repeating and I think thought provoking. Can you imagine if we all were trying to kill each other just to get into heaven? It's quite a contrast to the words of Christ.."There is no greater Love than this one that is willing to give up his life for another."

Allah or Jesus? by Rick Mathes..........

Last month I attended my annual training session that's required for maintaining my state prison security clearance. During the training session there was a presentation by three speakers representing the Roman Catholic, Protestant and Muslim faiths, who explained each of their belief systems.

I was particularly interested in what the Islamic Imam had to say. The Imam gave a great presentation of the basics of Islam, complete with a video.

After the presentations, time was provided for questions and answers.

When it was my turn, I directed my question to the Imam and asked, "Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand that most Imams and clerics of Islam have declared a holy jihad [Holy war] against the infidels of the world. And, that by killing an infidel, which is a command to all Muslims, they are assured of a place in heaven. If that's the case, can you give me the definition of an infidel?"

There was no disagreement with my statements and without hesitation, he replied, "Non-believers!"

I responded, "So, let me make sure I have this straight. All followers of Allah have been commanded to kill everyone who is not of your faith so they can go to Heaven. Is that correct?"

The _expression on his face changed from one of authority and command to that of a little boy who had just gotten caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

He sheepishly replied, "Yes."

I then stated, "Well, sir, I have a real problem trying to imagine Pope John Paul commanding all Catholics to kill those of your faith or Dr.Stanley ordering Protestants to do the same in order to go to Heaven!"

The Imam was speechless.

I continued, "I also have a problem with being your friend when you and your brother clerics are telling your followers to kill me. Let me ask you a question. Would you rather have your Allah who tells you to kill me in order to go to Heaven or my Jesus who tells me to love you because I am going to Heaven and He wants you to be with me?"

You could have heard a pin drop as the Imam hung his head in shame.

Needless to say, the organizers and/or promoters of the 'Diversification' training seminar were not happy with Rick's way of dealing with the Islamic Imam and exposing the truth about the Muslim's beliefs.

Didn't I say this? No one seemed to consider all the doubts that my points raised, but whatever. I figured it was contrived.

I did, and that's what sent me off to snopes to provide KFC here with evidence that it's untrue. My BS-ometer was twitching anyway, but your response sent it into high alert.

Dharma:
I went to Snopes and checked it out....the verified that it NEVER did happen.

Good Ol' Snopes.com!

Good Ol' Snopes.com!

I LOVE snopes. Whenever someone sends me a forwarded email I got check it out on snopes, then send it back with a link to the snopes page proving it wrong and a big black sentence that reads 'now you know why I ask you to NOT forward stuff to me!!!'

I just don't agree. But that's ok....we're still friends, right?

Of course we're still friends KFC, you know that.

Com'on Andy you have to get some different lines.

There were some new lines after that. The Hitler bit, for example.

Exodus 22:18 "Thou shall not suffer a witch to live. "

Leviticus 20:27 "A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them."

I could go on and on. There is the killing of the Israelites by the Levites after the Golden Calf, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah....

There is plenty of hate to go round.

One thing troubles me about the nature of the story and I realize that it does not originate with KFC. Why do people feel the need to make up lies to feel that their religion is superior?

I LOVE snopes.

Another couple of goodies is Hoaxbusters.com and Museum of Hoaxes.  But snopes is where I look first as well.

I dont think this is actually a "our religion is better than yours", but more in response to 9-11 and Islamic fundamentalism.

I don't know, but american christianity is terrible about doing it. Then again, fundamental islam might be doing it too and I wouldn't know about it because I'm not living in a muslim country.

However....I don't see many american jews making up stories about christians and how judaism is better than christianity. I also don't see many american buddhists, hindus, sikhs, pagans, wiccans and druids making up tall tales about christianity that paint their faith of choice in a superior light. So, from where I'm standing, it appears that american christians are the worst offenders for this kind of thing. Just IMO, that is. I don't have any proof to back it up.

I think it's a bit of both. I think it's a bit about 9-11 and the war in Iraq, but I also think it's about christianity wanting to make sure people know how peaceful they really are compared to the so-called 'religion of peace' - and that, to me, is a case of 'my religion's better than yours'.

Again, just my opinion.

Even though I knew this wasn't true...I have seen a few instances in my life of things of this nature. So I wouldn't say it never happens. But no one who claims to be a "leader" of any faith will walk into so obvious a trap!

This is not a total work of fiction as Dharma is leading us to believe. Rick Matthes and his wife are the founders of Mission Gate Prison Ministries. Here's a bit more to the story. Sounds to me while it was true...it was somewhat embellished.

Mathes, however, maintains that his is an accurate account, using the facts he knew at the time, and did go into some more detail making the encounter seem less antagonistic than his original account:

"...the inmate was introduced as an 'Imam'. Mr. Kneist was not there to know what was said or not and cannot disprove that what I wrote wasn't said. In fact when I said, 'I have a hard time being your friend when your faith says to kill me to go to heaven.' everyone burst out laughing. When his presentation was over and it was time for a break, we all felt sorry for the inmate including my self. In fact I gave him a sign and said 'Salaam' and he responded with a knowing smile. Knowing that there wasn't any animosity between us.

"I really asked the questions I needed to know the answers to and he did not respond as I thought he would have. I expected him to defend this "jihad" thing as rebel Muslims using religion to cloak their evil deed in. "

His silence leads me to conclude that either he was ignorant of his faith, was caught off guard and speechless, or agreed with my premise and conclusion (which I think he was).

"I am getting 24 emails in favor of the article to 1 against. We all agree that there is a "simmering volcano" in the Muslim community. Give me an Imam that will sing "God Bless America" or will say the "Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag" and I will listen to them discredit the fears we have about the Muslim community and all that we see and hear in the media. Until the American Muslim community speaks up, I have my doubts about those who join them."

Nonetheless, this essay falls short of being the proof that Islam's leaders cannot deny the violent nature of their own religion that many would have it be. Since both sides of the argument have recognized that the person Mathes was questioning was not an Islamic official nor a recognized expert in the religion, his actions should not be considered indicative of all Muslims. Break this chain.

here's another.....from truth or fiction.com

Summary of the eRumor
A story said to be written by prison minister Rick Mathes describes a confrontation between him and Moslem during a prison training session for those who have clearance to visit the prison.
He challenged the Moslem about whether Islam teaches the killing of infidels and allegedly reduced him to child-like shame.

The Truth
We contacted Rick Mathes, founder of Mission Gate Prison Ministries in Chesterfield, Missouri, and he stands by his story.
There have been some published reports from critics of Mathes' article who say the confrontation did not take place the way he describes and that the Moslem who spoke at the conference was not an Imam, but a prisoner who volunteered to speak as a Moslem.
Rick Mathes says that the man was introduced at the meeting as an Imam and that the story happened as he describes it.

But you believe whatever it is you need to believe to make it through the day

No Dharma,

You couldn't be more wrong about me. You have no idea. I am a truth seeker. I've left nice comfy religions because I studied myself out of them. I'm a junkyard dog with a bone when it comes to any sort of truth. I can't stand lies and I would never ever purposely spread one. This whole piece was mostly just thought provoking in my opinion and by the likes of it here....I guess it was for you too.

I'm not into fiction.....at all!!! I am not only NOT seeking to have my ears tickled, I don't tickle others as well.

So, you're discrediting the other eyewitness accounts in favor of the person you'd LIKE to believe? Yeah, that sounds about right.

No Dharma,

You missed my point. You WANT to believe its' true, and you've already demonstrated that by disregarding the other people who were there and said that they heard nothing of the sort go down. So, you believe what you want to.

As for nice and comfy religions....yeah, I'm not going to go there. I'll just say that the path I travel isn't easy either. You don't have the monopoloy on difficult faiths y'know. Perhaps you should ask a Jew how it is to walk in their shoes sometime.

And I was doing so well resisting the samsara here too....

Oh, and one more thing: Stute was the first one to say he had issues with the validity of the story. I was just the one who took the time to research it...and other people agreed with Stute and I, in case you didn't notice.

But you can blame it on me, you can say I led people astray if it makes you feel better. I'll understand.

Hi
