A few weeks ago I met a missionary named Jean.  She was amazing.  She's very old now having retired from mission work but still an inspiration even today.   She told us story after story of her travels as a missionary to the Congo  She was there for 42 years starting right after WWII when she was only 22 years old.  She's now 84 years old and gets around with the help of a walker.  Physically she's limited but mentally she's as sharp as eve...

Now, before you roll your eyes.....KFC and another religious article, keep in mind I haven't blogged on religion since like mid February....... HC sends me devos everyday from Henry Blackaby and once in a while I share them with friends and family.  Many times Blackaby gives me pause to meditate on his words and the scripture he shares and I asked myself, "how am I measuring up to what he's showing me here?  Where am I?"   Anyhow today's was about God testing us...

Today in church we spoke about history going backwards to the Reformation.  One of the topics was on martyrs and how many have died for Christ over the centuries.  Many died for no other reason than telling others about him or daring to share with another the word of God.  One of the ladies asked what the difference was between a martyr and the Islam extremists blowing themselves up for their faith.  I explained that a Christian died by him or herself for their b...

A while back in my studies thru LU I did a study on Hell.  Most of it I was familiar with since Hell, Sheol or Hades is a big subject mentioned in the bible frequently.  Anyhow since I did a summary of Heaven it only makes sense to give Hell some equal time.  Here goes.  There are many doctrines in scripture and the one most denied or questioned undoubtedly is the doctrine of Hell.  There are basically three methods Satan uses  often seen in either unbelieve...

Somebody was asking me about Heaven the other day so I thought I'd explain this wonderful place with a scriptural summary. Both Heaven & Hell are usually ignored, ridiculed or denied by most in our world today. In his book " The Biblical Doctrine of Heaven" Dr. Wilbur Smith lists two quotes regarding this. One is from a theologian and another a Scientist about this subject of heaven. "It is unwise for Christians to claim any knowledge of either the furniture of Heaven or the temper...

"And the Lord sent thee on a journey and said Go and utterly destroy the sinners, the Amalekites and fight against them until they be consumed." 1 Samuel 15:18 Why was this command given? What kind of a person could follow such a God who advocated this? Is the God of the OT different than the God of the NT? Why the command to exterminate all men, women and children belonging to the seven or eight Cannanite nations? How could God approve of the blanket destruction, at times, of th...

In my studies I came across this very moving story that was written up by the Moody Press in Chicago years and years ago. It was written by a Major D.W. Whittle entitled, "Willie Lear; The Substitute". Willie Lear lived near Palmyra, Missouri. In 1862 he was a young man of about 18 years of age. Like most of those who lived in his neighborhood, he sympathized with the south in the Civil War; which was at that time in progress. The Union forces occupied Palmyra and had control of th...

So from a creationist's standpoint why did God create man? Why are we here? Some think because God was lonely but that's not true. Some think because he wanted robots to do his bidding. That's not true either because we just have to look at each other to see that is far from the truth. So why did God create man? Was it for our own purpose? His purpose? I believe man was created to demonstrate the glory of God and to fellowship with his creator. Man was given both responsibil...

There has been lots of discussion here on evolution, creation, man being made in God's image and other creation vs evolution speak. There seems to be a line drawn down the middle with good people on both sides of this line. So who has the right answer? Can we, on this side of eternity, ever know for sure? Basically three theories have been propounded to explain man's origin, 1. Atheistic 2. Theistic Evolution 3. Special Creation From a Creationist's standpoint we look a...

What if Jesus Christ was never born? What would it be like here and in the rest of the world? Would it make a difference at all? It is a thought provoking question isn't it? What if Jesus had never been born? If Jesus was never born, what a difference it would make in politics. Our representative form of democracy rests on explicitly Christian principles of church and state. So do our principles of free speech and religious tolerance. In fact, the very founding of this nation was mot...

Christians have a hope they want to share with the world. Yet, that's not an easy task. The world quite often doesn't want to believe in the same hope the Christians have. Why? From a scriptural POV we're told the god of this world has blinded their eyes with sin. So now what? Do we stop? Do we stifle the desire of our hearts to show others the hope that lies within us? Sometimes we feel like we're caught between a rock and well, a hard place. We desire to show and tell others w...

Ok, so I'm on a kick right now so says Leauki on this whole angel thing. So he'll really be interested in me going once more but from a different angle. I came across, in my studies, some of what I call a "dictionary of fallen angel words or terms." I would even venture to say these terms define both the present day action and theology of fallen angels and those they convert. I'm sure you'll recognize some of these terms, as I did, but do you know them all without checking a dictionary f...

Along with faithful angels we also have in the spiritual realm evil angels or as most commonly referred to as demons. Other than Lucifer (Satan) and a demon named Legion I'm not aware of any personal names for demons although in the Hebrew there are names for fallen angels in general. The Hebrew word for "devils" is shedim. They also are known as sair and satyr . The word "he goat" is satyr in Hebrew and is thought to be tied into demon creatures of some sort. Sometimes...

I use the acronym BUSY all the time when it's applicable. It comes originally from this little story that has some biblical backing and interesting behind the scenes ideas as to what in the world is going on in our lives. Are we too busy for a reason? SATAN'S MEETING Satan called a worldwide convention of demons. In his opening address he said, "We can't keep Christians from going to church." "We can't keep them from reading their Bibles and knowing the truth." "We can't even ...

I've been studying angels lately thru a course I'm taking from Liberty. I've never done a study on angels before but found it interesting. Some people are fascinated with this subject. Some even border on or are full blown worshippers of angels. Many don't realize that angels in scripture are always mentioned as male (Gabriel and Michael ) but yet when we go to the store and pick up a figurine of an angel it's usually depicted as female. Why is that? What do you know about angel...
