Lauren Elizabeth

They lied.

That was ugly.

I got the call two days ago that I had another grandson.  I came here to OHIO expecting a girl and was kind of surprised to find out it was a boy when they called from the hospital.

They gave me very little information and now I know why.  When I called my husband with the first baby news, he said for me not to believe it until I changed that first diaper.  He knew how convinced I was when I left home even bringing the pink/white Nikes with me.

They walked in the front door with little Lauren Elizabeth all wrapped up.  When they unwrapped her, she was all in pink and then I knew.

Surprise!  The first baby girl born in our family in 40 years!

Thanks.  So for my husband's family this makes 10 grandsons carrying on the family name to 1 granddaughter.  So far.

First in 40 years! Can you say "gonna be spoiled"? Congratulations!

Thanks.  It's been a long time coming.  She just like a little live doll.  She's adorable.

So Tova it went down like this:

My Son calls after the birth...

Brian:  "you're not going to be happy."

ME:  "it's a boy?"

Brian:  "We're thinking of maybe calling him Jude."

ME:  "Jude?"  (thinking...you've got to be kidding me)

Brian:  "Ya, like Jude Law, the actor."

ME:  "All I can think of is the song "Hey Jude.  (he never heard the song)  At least it's biblical.   So....what other names do you have?

Brian:  "Well Thomas and maybe Mark."

ME:  "Thomas is nice."

The next day when he came home to pick up the car seat:

ME:  "Have you picked out a name yet?"

Brian:  "No, still working on it."

ME:  "Are you kidding me?  You've had nine months already."

Later that day when they came in with the baby all wrapped up:

ME:  "have you picked a name yet?"  As I watched him uncover the baby.

Brian:  "I'd like you to meet Lauren Elizabeth"  as he unwraps her revealing she was all decked out in pink.

I knew then it had to be a girl. I didn't need to peek under the diaper.  There's no way in you know where that any of my sons would dress his boy in a pink outfit.  Not going to happen.

ME:  "It's a girl?  "your father told me not to trust you unless I checked the diaper first.  I guess he was right afterall."

Sooooo all the phone calls had to be re-visited because the news was out all over kingdom come that we had another boy.  Even here on JU.  I could have wrung his neck.

All I can say is....what goes around comes around!

Well, it was one great opportunity to play a prank on grandma, you gotta admit that lol

I love how they did it.  You are so much fun to prank!

Oh that cute!  Congratulations!

thanks TW.  I told Amanda she should try the one more time and then she'd have two boys and then two girls.  But hers are already so close together (three in diapers) I don't think that went over too well....

Tova,  forgot one other other thing.  When my son came home to retrieve the car seat the day after the birth he was waving a little blue card around and I didn't pick up on it at all.  I was peppering him with questions and it did seem odd he was being evasive.  Come to find out they had to ask for special permission to have info printed on a blue card instead of a pink one just to pull this prank.  When they told the personnel at the hospital that this was the first girl baby in my husband's side of the family in 40 years they got all excited and were quick to give them the blue card.

It went right over my head.

Congratulations on the girl!  My God Daughter was born 10/29, so we are celebrating as well.

It took my aunt almost as long - 4 sons, 5 grandsons before their first girl.
