But It Will Not Stop The People From Praying
Published on May 6, 2009 By KFC Kickin For Christ In Current Events

I'm not surprised, but am disappointed.  The President of our nation has just canceled the National Day of Prayer's observance in the White House.

This National Day of Prayer has been observed every single year since 1952, when Harry Truman first introduced it. It has been commemorated by every single President until now.  Why now?  Is this part of the big change?

Is this a good thing?

I believe more than ever that we need to come before God as a nation in corporate prayer.  As a nation we have much to pray about.

This is a good thing.

A big part of this day is to pray corporately for our leaders, our military, our families, our neighbors and co-workers.

 This is a good thing.

In the meantime while the White House chooses not to recognize this day tomorrow,  millions of people from all religious backgrounds will go to God in prayer seeking his wisdom and direction instead of their own.

Yes, this is a good thing regardless of religious affiliation.

I guess the President has it all under control.

We need to pray for our leaders more than ever before.

And that is a good thing.......

"If my people who are caled by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."   2 Chron 7:14

I keep thinking not only about all the financial devestation we've gone thru as a nation this past year with crooked financers, crooked politicians, crooked CEO's but also the pure evil that has permeated this country.  And it's going to get worse.  I can see it coming.  We need prayer and God in our lives more than ever before.  We can't do this alone.  It won't happen.

I can't seem to shake from my mind the story I heard yesterday.  A 21 year old man took a three month old baby and threw him out the car window onto the interstate killing him in a fit of rage. A news reporter found this baby the next day in the middle of the road like some sort of road kill.

Why did this happen?  Because he fought with the child's mother, a 17 year old young girl who shouldn't have had a three month old in the first place.

and Obama says, we don't need to set aside a day to pray for our country?

Hey, it's Obama. With him in the White House we need not to pray anymore. He will solve all our problems.

On a more serious note, he is the most unusual "Christian" I have ever seen. I think this whole change concept is being taken too far and those who voted for him will eventually regret it when they realize that this is no longer the nation they grew up in and they may not like this new nation he is forcing on to us. But I say let them have it, sometimes people have to get burned to learn to keep their hands out of the fire.

I'm torn on this.

First, on one hand I believe that he is well within his right not to observe it at the Whitehouse. To me, faith is a private matter. On the other hand, one could say that he has to represent and accept those he is president of. That would mean all of them.

Secondly, it's his faith. Right?

Thirdly, why would anyone want the government involved in religion? Remember the Church of England, or the Catholic Church? Government and religion do not mix.

Fourth, see above.

I think you just nailed it Charles.

I heard he made a statement to the effect that he doesn't need this public observance as he prays in a private sort of way.

What he doesn't understand is.......this is not about him.  This is bigger than him. This is about all of us coming together as a nation.  He's our Federal Head.  He's supposed to represent us.  As a "Christian" he should lead the way.   While private prayer is all good and fine corporate prayer is also a good thing and something that does glorify God.

This act just revealed his true colors.  He's been unmasked.

He's representing himself and there is no room to recognize another deity.

This is not the church of England.  This is not the CC.  Our country was founded on Prayer.  The very first Congress was started with a three hour prayer.

This has nothing to do with instituting a Federal Religion like England did.  It's a day when all people regardless of their religion in this country can get on their knees and pray to God as I stated earlier.

This has all to do with the leader of the Free World being an example for the rest of our country.  The country that was once upon a time blessed because of the prayers of the people (see the scripture I included above).

No, but my point still stands. When the government gets involved with faith even a little bit, the results can be disasterous.

(see the scripture I included above).

I don't live by the Old Testament.  Are you assuming I do?

Is there some reason I shouldn't?

Is there some reason I shouldn't?

quoting a beautiful scripture from the Old Testament doesn't mean I live by the Old Covenant but it also doesn't mean it's not relevant.   The Old Coveanant was about the law while the New Covenant is one of Grace.  The New comes out of the Old.

That's why Jesus gave us "you don't put new wine in old wineskins" speech.  The old wine is good, but the new wine is much better.

I didn't even know this existed...so I can't say I much care.

If you want to pray, then pray.  The world will spin just the same whether you do or not.

What i think is interesting is that up until now now one really cared about this till Obama became President. Now all of a sudden all traces of religion are to be eliminated or ignored? So how does one ignore the fact that every President we have had up until now always lead the country by their religious beliefs? How come no one cared back then? If we gonna BS ourselves about the whole "seperation or church and state" then we need to vote for an athiest. Otherwise we need to stop kidding ourselves into believing that we can somehow eliminate any trace of religion from our Gov't. This is plain stupid in my opinion.

Obama is so Christian that I fear for freedom of religion under him. After all, what about freedom of firearms?

Did he finally get that carpeting installed in the Oval office with the pentagram pattern?

Thanks for bringing the latest with Obama to our attention.

As I was reading the article and then the comments, this what you've written came to mind. His decision is a private one that speaks myriads about himself. He's telling us something about himself.

This has all to do with the leader of the Free World being an example for the rest of our country.

Exactly and what is his example....not having a national day of prayer.  In one of his first trips abroad while in Turkey, he said that we are not a Christian nation...and now this!

I thought that was a swastika that he was getting.

Oh ya, 2Chronicles 7:14 is very applicable...

....and so is St.Matthew 16:26

"For what doth it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his soul?"
