No Support For This Woman

Oprah is in trouble again.

I first heard about this story when Anthony R put up a link on my blog "Liberals Make My Head Hurt."  In the link a radio show caller  read a letter aloud that she had written to Oprah expressing disappointment in the fact that Palin was not going to be allowed on her show.   This woman had a severely disabled 24 year old daughter and was looking towards Palin as a role model for all mothers of disadvantaged children.

So the question is why isn't Oprah allowing Palin on her show?   Could it be because Palin is running against the great Obama?

I think it is.

So now the Florida Federation of Republician Women are boycotting Oprah's show after the talk-show host refused to allow Sarah Palin as a guest on her show before the election.  Hmmmmm do you think Sarah would go on the Oprah Winfrey Show afterwards?

I don't think so.  At least I hope not.

Now, here's again, where LIberals make no sense to me.  Oprah built her career catering to women and helping them in advancing their careers.  Here's a perfect opportunity to show Oprah's committment to women having a place in the big boy workplace.  In other words this is where push meets shove.

Surprisingly for many Oprah is bowing out of this  opportunity in interviewing Sarah Palin for obvious reasons.

Let's see.  Obama is black.  Sarah is not.  Obama champions for Africian causes.  Sarah does not.  Obama is a Democrat.  Sarah is not.   Obama's name starts with O.  Sarah's does not.

But on the other hand we have a great story in Sarah Palin.  She's a woman who for the very first time in the history of this country is standing where a man has always stood.  And she does so in a skirt and high heels.

Yet, Oprah is not going to allow her on her show.

In a press statement the President of the FFRW, Linda Ivell, says the decision not to bring Palin on the show  until after the election means Oprah is choosing to sit out the greatest political movement of Republican women  since suffrage.

This is just another example of the Liberal's control of our media.  No wonder many in the country are tuning into Conservative Radio.  It's the only way to hear the truth on the other side.

I would say maybe I would boycott Oprah myself, but I rarely watch her anyhow.   Years ago she started going wacky on me so I turned her off.

Maybe others should too.

It's Oprah's show, she can have who she wants on and talk about what she wants.  Give it a rest.

I wouldn't have that crazy lady on my show either if I was Oprah . . .

No, wait - I'd want her on, just so I could try to trap her in her words and get her all riled up so she'd shoot me in the face with her Moose gun and everyone could see how nuts she is.  I'll just wear my Kevlar face that day.

Indeed, and thank god there is no fairness act (or Oprah would have no choice). 3 cheers for Oprah and her freedom! But by the same token, why are you denying the same freedom to KFC? this is afterall HER blog and her freedom. Why should she give it a rest?

I'm not saying that she can't write about what she feels, more of a message to try and stop overreacting about the decision of a show host.  On the same note, you're asking me to not offer my opinion that she should just let it go, why should I give it a rest?  We can go in circles with that stance all day long, but in the end, we all have our opinions.  Oprah, KFC, you, me, we've all just put them out there to either be accepted or rejected.  I won't feel bad if she doesn't like what I had to say on the subject.

This is ridiculous.  Oprah chose not to have her as a guest.  There are millions of people Oprah chooses not to have as a guest.  She is under no obligation to provide a forum for Pallin or any other office seeker.  People need to move on and focus on important things.  This isn't it.

Oprah is partisan and doesn't seem to mind letting the world know it. I guess the same goes for those kooky women on the View. Its Ironic that Oprah built her case for an Obama presidency on his opposition to the Iraq war, but she never objected to Joe Biden, a candidate who did authorize the use of force.

No, wait - I'd want her on, just so I could try to trap her in her words and get her all riled up so she'd shoot me in the face with her Moose gun and everyone could see how nuts she is.

Perhaps a Dominatrix could help you to overcome this castration anxiety... you'll shock your family when you return home in a plastic gimp suit, but you will finally be free of this fear of strong women.

In no way am I afraid of strong women, I'm afraid of women whose political views are so out of touch with what the mainstream US wants or believes the country should be doing.

I know you're Palin's little lapdog on this website, but gimme a break.

Moreover - back to the original article - Oprah hasn't BANNED Palin, she's just not being invited to be on the show before the election.  Purposely inflammatory (and misleading) words don't help your case, KFC.

Oprah's still on TV?

Guess that's what I get for not caring.

I stopped watching Oprah when she founded her own religion.

Doesn't surprise me at all.

on Sep 13, 2008

Some of you don't get it.

Oprah is a hypocrite.  She champions woman's causes all over kingdom come.  She's had women on there all shapes, sizes, religions, attitudes, professions, etc. good and bad.

How come not now?

She's no diff than the big boys she fights against.

Kind of reminds me of Gloria Steinem.  She led many women thru the 60's and 70's with her "a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle" speak.

Then a few years ago, she got married  (to a man) and created great angst among  all those women followers who gave up husbands and families for careers and are now facing retirement alone.  They believed she meant what she said only to find out that a "fish really does need a bicycle "after all.  She just doesn't know it.

I stopped watching Oprah when she founded her own religion.

I know exactly what you are saying and I stopped for the same reason.  I saw a drastic change from when she first started to now, and it's not for the better IMO.

Sorry, SanCho - that's why we have elections.  I'm rather glad we haven't entrusted the definition of mainstream US to you.

you're absolutely right on this.  I agree.  And we who disagree with her partisan behavior during this momentous time can also choose NOT to watch her anymore.

But give what a rest?  This is the first time I've mentioned this.  I know for a fact, I haven't overblown or over spoke this issue by any means.

There are millions of people Oprah chooses not to have as a guest.

speaking of overblowing something.........millions?  Really?  Then can you finish this top ten list? I'll name the first.

1.  Palin

Oprah hasn't BANNED Palin, she's just not being invited to be on the show before the election.

semantics.  Ban is a shorter word.

I'm afraid of women whose political views are so out of touch with what the mainstream US wants or believes the country should be doing.

and who are you accusing of this?  Palin?  Me?  If you're right then why did McCain suddenly surge ahead in the polls...........hmmmmm?

However you parse it, Oprah choosing to endorse Obama, and allowing that endorsement to dictate who she will invite or not invite to appear, is a problem... for Oprah.  In appearing to dis an accomplished and successful female politician, she seems small-mined & petty (it's a daytime fluff talk show, folks) and a bit too impressed with herself.  The irony is that she could have done Obama a service by having Palin on the show & demonstrating openness to those with differing views.

She's just not been the same since she cried her eyelashes off.

Ummm...I have no idea who she is going to have on her show.  But let's assume that she has 100 guests on her show - guess everyone else in the world is someone she didn't have on her show -

she has shows with authors but not every author and in general not authors whose voice she doesn't agree with.  She has shows with movie stars - but not every movie star.  She has shows with politicians but not every politician.

It's HER show.  This is the biggest something about nothing, I've heard of.  She didn't have Hillary Clinton on her show when she was running for the nomination.  That doesn't mean that HILLARY WAS BANNED!  Get over it.  This is completely unimportant.  If you don't like Oprah and are offended that she didn't invite Palin to be a guest on the show - don't watch.  If you didn't watch the show anyway - what do you care?  This is complete and utter stupidity.

Well, this wasn't simply an article about Oprah "banning" Palin from her show, was it?  There was that slight undertone of liberals controlling the media, yet you're discussing a woman with general control over her own show (hint: if she was a conservative she would still have control of her own show).

Surprisingly for many Oprah is bowing out of this opportunity in interviewing Sarah Palin for obvious reasons.
Let's see. Obama is black. Sarah is not. Obama champions for Africian causes. Sarah does not. Obama is a Democrat. Sarah is not. Obama's name starts with O. Sarah's does not.

That's not overblowing or overspeaking the issue at hand at all...

It's just Oprah, it's not that she doesn't care about womens' rights, how could that be???  She is a liberal in support of Obama and doesn't want Palin to have any air time with her show, it's probably as simple as that.  If it isn't just that simple, then who really cares anyway?  She doesn't have to have her on just because some people want her to.  If you're really concerned that Palin won't be let on to talk to a liberal on their show, I'm sure you could always get Jon Stewart to just lay into her and make her look ridiculous.
