Not From God but From Man

Many know and recognize Charles Dawin's book, "Origin of Species" written in 1859 that brought the whole Evolutionary Science to the forefront.  But how many know the real title of the book?  Do you recognize this?

On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life,

How many know this?  This was the original title.  How many know that Darwin was not only a Racist but also believed women were inferior to men?  It blows my mind that people follow this man and his writings without even knowing anything about the man who started it all.   How many know that Hitler and his Nazi's took Darwin's beliefs to heart and therefore had much to do with what we know today as the Holocaust?

If I were to ask you how many races are there, how many would you say?  20?  30?  50? Hundreds?

From a  biblical POV there is only one race; the human race. Race is an evolutionized term.  It's too bad the churches didn't realize this.  Some do, many still do not.  Many churches today still have on their books a law against interracial marriages.  Why?  It's not coming from scripture.  Scripture doesn't recognize races.  Tribes?  Yes.  Nations?  Yes.  There is no forbidden different races to marry.  Moses married a black woman.   Rhab and Ruth, both in the geneology of Christ were from different races  marrying into the Jewish Faith yet they were two of only four women mentioned in the gospel lineage of Christ.

Our speaker at the AIG conference said he was recently denied to speak at a church because he had been married for 25 years to a Japanese woman.  Happily married to one woman but since she was  Japanese the by-laws of this particular church forbid it or the Pastor would be asked to leave the church.   Sad.

If we would only learn to look at people groups thru the lens of God's word and not thru the lens of man's opinions.  How much nicer this world would be.

If there is no Jesus, then there is no equality.  If there is Jesus then there is equality because Jesus is the Creator and we are all created equal.  But even the Christians did err for not knowing the scriptures.  In a Southern Baptist Church in 1856 a half breed was not allowed to be buried in a church cemetary.  They were a pretty racist group all in themselves.  Darwin just helped them along.  Many don't realize that it was the Christians who rode in under Darwin's coattails while the Scientists stood back not supporting him hardly at all.  In fact some loudly protested his findings.  It wasn't until after the 1930's when the new younger Scientists came along that his theory was accepted in large by the Scientific community.

So many stories on racism thru the years.  How many know or have read about Africans put on display in Zoos?  Have you ever read about the world's fair in St. Louis in 1904 when a black pygmy boy was put on display?  Happend all the time.  I recently read a story about this also in NY in 1906.

From an evolutionist POV this belief of superiority is hardwired into our brain.  The Boston Globe reporting about Bosnia and Bio-Politics said that the cause of the bloodbath over there "lies in our genes."  They said it's genetic.  It couldn't be sin could it?

In England I remember a story about this Musem holding bones of the blacks keeping them for Science.  When they were requested for burial they refused.  Blacks were not treated as human by many.

How about sterilization?  Ever hear of that?  How many know that in the United States alone over 64,000 people were sterilized right up until the 1970's?   Many might remember Hitler ordering this forced sterilization to over 400,000 people but not many know the United States  was behind such a horrid program.

This was all done in the name of Eugenics or the support of improving the human race by sterilizing those who maybe were non-white, sick with disease, had epilepsy or were feeble minded.  How did one know if someone was feeble minded or not?  Ever hear of the SAT test?  Yep, used for measuring intelligence.  How scary is that?   Ever hear of the bell curve linking intelligence with race?

Forced sterilization was done also in the prison system.  I heard Indiana started this in the prison system 100 years ago by sterilizing some of the inmates.  From 1924-79 Virginia sterilized 8,000 people alone.

In 1967 there was a law against interracial marriage in 16 states until 1967 in a Supreme Court case Loving vs. Virginia.  http://www.diversityinc.com/public/1982.cfm  Many, my age or older can probably remember these days quite well.

So how could we, as a Christian Nation pass these laws?  Where is the equality the scriptures preach about?  Why aren't we listening? What happened?  From what I can ascertain even the churches were consistent with the world view turning away from the biblical world view.  They were viewing man's opinion as higher than God's opinion.

What does the bible say about the feeble minded?  We sterilized them.  Germany executed them but yet scripture says we are to comfort them.

The bible says it's not the externals that matter.  It's all about internals.  It's not about skin color. Large earlobes, large noses or slanted eyes are the same as skin color.  These are genetic traits and should not be used to make one inferior to another.

Will we ever learn?

This is an interesting thread so I thought I would give my 2 cents. Let me just say that I am Jewish so I do not subscribe to the religious ideas that some of you possess. I will leave religion, for the most part, out of this.

When it comes to Darwin, I think he is simply discussing how one race, or one person's physical attributes may assist him in surviving while others might parish. For instance, I'm very light skinned. If I go out in the sun for too long, especially without sunscreen, I will get very sick and that's with wearing clothes. Imagine if we hadn't invented clothing? I would definitely be physically inferior to any black person in a tropical or desert climate. I see no racism in stating that. In such climates those that had darker skin prevailed above those that had lighter skin, it's that simple.

If Hitler used Darwin, he perverted the theories. Civilization is how humans have learned to overcome their physical shortcomings in the natural environment. Like I said, I have very light skin and I'm not alone, therefore to help protect ourselves, civilization has fashioned clothing and have invented sunscreen. Think of it this way, physically, we are inferior to most animals out there. We do not have the claws, speed, big teeth and strength of a lion or tiger to hunt. We have to work together in a society to make it. Imagine how many of us would never have made it into adulthood without the use of glasses, especially if we didn't have society to help compensate. Imagine putting a blind man in the middle of the forest.

Just because a blind man would not be fit to survive on his own in the rugged out door world, that doesn't mean that we should go around killing blind people because they are physically inferior in that regard. Instead, we invent ways to overcome such shortcomings. And as I said earlier, that's what civilization is all about. That's its job.

Where does hatred and fear of certain groups come from? I don't think it's too hard to see how it happens. If a person experiences negative interactions from more than one person who share a common trait, be it a physical feature, or religious background, the individual will begin to draw connections between that trait and that experience. It's a natural phenomanon. In order to break that connection, the individual will need to see people of that trait who not only don't behave in that manner but also stand up against it. As I said earlier, I'm Jewish and as you all are aware there is a lot of hatred between Jews and Muslims. As a Jew, I would not randomly condemn a Muslim to death, but at the same time, I would not be trusting of him unless he outwardly condemns what other representatives of his faith have done. I don't think that that's being irrational.

Here you seem to be clumping Darwinism with race formation. (Darwinism Macro-Evolution Theory means construction of new genes and an increase in the amount of genetic info---something which to date hasn't been proven, has no empirical evidence or been demonstrated in a lab).

One's physical attributes, as having light or fair skin, and how we got them is race formation and race formation is not Darwinian Evolution. The formation of the various races is microevolution or small change within species or "kind". All race formation requires is isolation from a population and after a few generations the isolated population will irreversably lose some of its genes and in some features will be different from the population that it was isolated from. In this case race is genetically impoverished relative to the whole population. Natural selection filters out certain parental genes in successive generations producing offspring with slightly different characteristics but less genetic variability. Your example of fair skinned people living near the equator would be highly susceptible to health risks such as skin cancer. Consequently they have less chance of living to reproduce and pass on their genes to their children...This is why over many generations dark skinned people live near the equator, and light skinned people tend to live at higher altitudes. And yes, there are exceptions to this, Eskimos for example.

Think of it this way, physically, we are inferior to most animals out there.

I disagree. Mankind isn't inferior to any of the animals. Never was and never will be.

We do not have the claws, speed, big teeth and strength of a lion or tiger to hunt.

Yes, but we do have brains and ingenuity to make guns, traps, trucks, etc.

Where does hatred and fear of certain groups come from?

Well, hatred and unjust prejudice based on physical appearances (as in racism) have caused wars, genocide, forced segration, etc..where does all this come from? I would suggest that it starts with hatred or unbelief in God and rebellion against His laws and goes straight downhill from there.

Racism is one of the social consequences that follows logically from Darwinism. Social Darwinism held that the "survival of the fittest" applied in nature not only in individuals but also in the struggle between races and nations. Those individuals, groups that were hostile to the State or were deemed biologically inferior would have to perish if the nation or State were to survive. This is going on today in various countries around the world...babies in the womb are aborted if they are unwanted, deemed inferior in any way, or even the "wrong" gender.

Racism is the result of confusion, not God's word.

Sexism, now, is different from racism, and slavery doesn't have to be racist or brutal. See Roman slavery, where the slaves were often treated better than the poor (an unfortunate situation in itself), the main thing that makes slavery brutal is the industrialization of it.

Not arguing for slavery, there, though. Slavery is bad.
